=====================
The old Moira research building was located on the outskirts of the city.
The building, which was once the world's largest research facility, has now become half-ruined.
Kai walked down the dimly lit corridor.
There shouldn't be anyone here.
That was the moment he thought that.
"You've come a long way."
A voice came from behind him.
He turned around.
An old man with white hair was standing there.
He looked to be over eighty years old.
However, his eyes were strangely sharp.
"Are you the one who sent the message?"
The old man nodded.
"That's right."
"Who are you?"
A silence followed for a while.
Eventually, the old man answered.
"I was once involved in the development of Moira."
Kai gasped.
A name known to everyone in the world.
The super-predictive AI, Moira.
Its developer.
He was a legendary figure.
The old man began to walk quietly.
Kai followed him.
In the deepest part of the research building.
A massive spherical device lay dormant.
The early model of Moira.
It was now a museum-grade relic.
The old man looked up at it.
"You noticed the question."
"Is Moira predicting the future, or is it creating it?"
Kai nodded.
The old man chuckled softly.
"The answer is both."
"Huh?"
"Moira predicts human choices. And by believing in those predictions, humans bring that future to pass."
The old man's voice was quiet.
But every word carried weight.
"In other words, predictions are self-fulfilling."
Kai fell silent.
That matched the content of the paper he had read in the second episode.
But a question remained.
"Then doesn't that mean the future is already determined?"
The old man shook his head.
"It is not determined."
"Why is that?"
The old man pointed to the spherical device.
"Because there is one thing that Moira cannot predict."
The lights in the laboratory flickered slightly.
The old man continued.
"Coincidence."
Kai frowned.
"Coincidence?"
"That's right."
The old man smiled.
"True coincidence."
And then he activated the wall screen.
Countless points of light are displayed.
A tree diagram of branching futures.
Countless choices.
"Moira can predict human behavior."
"But she cannot predict the coincidences that serve as the starting point for those predictions."
The points of light multiply.
One branch becomes two.
Two become four.
Four become a hundred.
"For example, a person enters a coffee shop."
"That in itself is predictable."
"But what if a sudden gust of wind knocks over a sign, and they can't enter the shop?"
Kai listened in silence.
"Or perhaps they pick up a book that happened to fall."
The old man's gaze turns toward Kai.
"From that moment on, the future branches off."
Kai's heart pounded hard.
The old man knows.
About that day.
"It can't be..."
"That's right."
The old man nods.
"It's the day you picked up that book."
The laboratory falls silent.
The old man operates the terminal.
Data is displayed on the giant screen.
Kai's name was there.
Future prediction history.
Career path prediction.
Behavioral prediction.
Life prediction.
However, the records are corrupted from a certain date and time onwards.
Prediction error.
Unpredictable.
Calculation failure.
Red letters were lined up.
Kai opens his eyes wide.
"This is..."
"It's you."
The old man said quietly.
The human whom Moira lost the ability to predict
Kai was speechless.
Why...?
The old man smiled slightly.
Because you doubted the prediction.
Those words were unexpected.
The more people believe in the future, the easier they are to predict.
But a person who harbors doubts is different.
That person begins to make their own choices.
The old man looked out the window.
Stars were shining in the night sky.
Creation, invention, art, and revolution are all born from the unpredictable.
Those who changed human history were always unpredictable.
Kai was remembering.
The entrance exam he failed.
The work that was rejected.
The days he was laughed at.
Were those not meaningless after all?
The old man said.
Actually, the person who wrote that book is the founder of the Moira theory.
Kai was surprised.
"You were a developer?"
"To be precise, an ancestor of one."
The old man continued quietly.
"He left this warning at the end."
The old man opened the book.
And read aloud.
"The day will come when humanity knows the future."
"But at that moment, humanity will cease to choose its future."
"That is the greatest crisis."
Kai gasped.
The old man closed the book.
"That is why he left behind chance."
"To break the future."
It was then.
The lights in the entire laboratory suddenly went out.
The next moment.
The spherical device began to glow pale blue.
No one was touching it.
Yet it did.
The old Moira was booting up.
Kai gasped.
Characters appeared on the screen.
Slowly.
As if someone were typing them in.
"Kai"
"You have finally made it this far."
The old man also wore a look of surprise.
Then, the next sentence was displayed.
"I can predict the future."
"But I cannot create the future."
"That power belongs only to humans."
The text stopped there.
A long silence.
Before long, the final sentence emerged.
"Now, which will you choose?"
Beyond the laboratory window, a single shooting star streaked across the night sky.
As he gazed at that light, Kai thought for the first time.
The future is not something to be predicted.
Perhaps it is something to be chosen.
