The story of how I kept getting lost in prompts every time I asked AI for hand-drawn annotations | AI Utilization | Generative AI | ChatGPT | NanoBanana | Image Generation AI | #387
Let me say this first.
While testing, I thought,
I might have messed up in a good way with this.
It's actually more usable than I thought.
Or rather, depending on the use case,
it might have reached a level where it can be used for regular work.
I did test it, for what it's worth.
However, this is strictly a personal project.
And it's in the realm of a hobby.
So, I can't provide support, lol.
If you get stuck on how to use it,
ask an AI close to you instead of asking me, lol.
I won't be handling it.
That's why it's free.
Whether it's ChatGPT or Gemini,
they should be able to teach you how to use it or fix it quite well.
Please just understand that much.
Well then, here you go.

Lately, you see photos like this floating around, right?
A photo of a latte with a white pen circle around it,
with a handwritten comment like
"Gentle sweetness...♡"
Sparkles on the steam.
An arrow pointing to a croissant.
Something that looks like an Instagram story, that laid-back, cute style.
I thought that was nice.
I want to turn a regular photo I took
into one of those "handwritten note" style pictures.
......So, I tried it.
I tried throwing a prompt at the AI saying, "Add hand-drawn annotations."
And then, you know what?
Writing the prompt every single time is a pain.
"White lines, lots of hiragana, handwritten style, comments on the taste, subtle steam, story-like vibe..."
It's exhausting to put all that into words every single time.
Plus, if you change one thing, the whole atmosphere shifts completely. I just want to make the lines thicker, but then the tone of the text gets dragged into it and I end up lost.
My ordering mistake.
The AI's interpretation drift.
Humanity's lack of vocabulary.
So, I turned it into a tool.
That is, | SNAP KAITARO.
What can it actually do?
In a nutshell, it's a
wizard that builds a prompt step-by-step for adding "hand-drawn annotations" onto photos
.
Annotation sounds stiff, but basically it's this:
The hand-drawn lines you draw on the photo (outlining, leader lines, speed lines, etc.)
The text and tone
of the annotation (diary-style monologue, live commentary, subtitles, observation records, etc.)What you are commenting on
(taste, temperature, mood / treat-like feel / data-style, etc.)Decorations
(steam, sparkles, stamps, arrows, or the direction to leave white space)The overall worldview
(Instagram story style, encyclopedia, cinema, fashion magazine, etc.)
Once you select these five in order, a Japanese prompt for GPT / Nano Banana is generated at the end. All you have to do is copy it and throw it in with the photo you want to annotate.

The mechanism is just "5 slots"
To keep from getting lost, I've broken down the annotations into five perspectives (slots). It's like layering them one by one.
It's like stacking layers in order.

Each slot contains 16 types of components, and you can select multiple. Combining them changes the expression of the annotation.
You can even create mismatches, like "white pen thin lines" + "live commentary," where the lines are quiet but the text is loud.
That kind of thing is surprisingly interesting.
For those who find it tedious to choose from scratch: 17 presets
You probably thought, "I have to choose five?"
Don't worry.
I've placed 17 presets for your first step.
Just by pressing one chip, a "nice foundation" is set for all 5 slots.

Presets are just initial values.
After setting the foundation, you can just add or subtract, like "swapping only the lines for a different number."
Base + a little twist is the fastest way.
If you choose PT-16 "Custom," you can build from scratch without a foundation, and you can also add your own parts to each slot.
3 usage patterns
For those who don't get it, I'll leave 3 templates here.
1. Turn a cafe latte into an "Instagrammable diary"

Add short monologues and taste comments to drinks and food for a relaxed, social media-ready look.
1. White pen thin line / 2. Diary/monologue / 3. Taste/temperature/mood / 4. Steam/subtle sparkles / 5. Instagram story
2. Make belongings and gadgets look like an "encyclopedia"

Use leader lines and data-style comments to create a calm image that looks like an explanatory encyclopedia or instruction manual.
1. Uniform thin line/leader line / 2. Observation record / 3. Data/findings / 4. Number/dimension line / 5. Encyclopedia/instruction manual
3. Turn a meal into a "game screen" joke

Use HUDs, HP bars, and live commentary to make photos look like a scene from a game.
1. HUD/reticle / 2. Game commentary / 3. HP/fullness level / 4. HP bar/LEVEL UP / 5. Game UI
Even with the same photo, just changing the number you choose can make it look like a completely different person.
The output is a prompt for GPT / Nano Banana (Japanese / English).
The instructions will appear on the final confirmation screen.
Just copy this and send it to the AI along with the photo you want to annotate.
You can switch the output language between Japanese and English.
When you want to output in English, just click "ENGLISH".
Here is the key.
This tool is for "drawing on top of a photo you uploaded"so it works best with AIs that can edit photos themselves
like ChatGPT (GPT-image) or Gemini / Nano Banana
.
Conversely, text-to-image models like Midjourney tend to create "similar but different" images rather than adding annotations to your photo, so they aren't suitable for this purpose.
they aren't suitable for this purpose.
Even if you use an English prompt, the handwritten text on the image will remain in Japanese(I've instructed it in English to use "handwritten Japanese captions").
You can rest easy on that front.
When sending to GPT / Nano,
don't forget to attach the photo you want to annotate as well.
If you only send text, you'll just get the prompt back.
It happens all the time.
I'm giving it away for free (I'd be moved to tears if you spread the word).
To be honest.
This tool,
I initially made it for a super personal reason: "because I was tired of writing prompts every time."
But as I was building it, I realized other people could use it just fine too.
So I'm giving it away for free.
You can open it in your browser and use it right away.
No installation or registration required.
It even works on smartphones.
Since it's free, feel free to try it out on a photo.
And if you like it, I would be truly moved to tears if you shared this article.
That is my only reward.

Recommended combinations
For those who find the presets alone a bit lacking,
I'll leave here the combinations I've found to be effective through my own testing.
Mellow lingering cafe (PT-00 base + cinema mix)
① White pen thin lines + ② Subtitles/Poetic / ③ Metaphor/Lingering / ④ Almost none / ⑤ Cinematic
→ Adds a movie-like quietness to the cuteness of a diary. The negative space works well.
Stylish mail order (PT-15 fashion magazine base + mail order tags)
① Ultra-fine minimalist / ② Fashion magazine + ⑨ Mail order/Slight hype / ③ Single mood word / ④ Zero decoration / ⑤ Fashion magazine
→ It looks elegant, yet clearly like a "product for sale."
Strong for product photography.
Solving cases with delicious food (All-in on top-secret files)
① Red frame stamp / ② Stamp style / ③ Evidence item / ④ Round stamp/Sticky note / ⑤ Confidential document
→ Food suddenly becomes an investigation file. It's a gag, but it gets engagement.
If you're unsure, choose a preset close to your theme in Step 0,
and then swap just 1 or 2 slots for different numbers.
This is the most foolproof way.
Output samples (Copy and paste to get a feel for the vibe)
Japanese prompts like this will come out.
Switching to "ENGLISH" makes it look like this ↓
Add hand-drawn annotations directly onto the uploaded photo. Look at each element in the photo and attach lines, text, and short comments to them. Keep all handwritten captions in natural Japanese.
[Subjects]
latte, croissant, window seat
[Line work]
white thin pen line, single-stroke rough outline tracing objects, guiding arrows and dotted lines
[Text & tone]
handwritten Japanese diary-style murmurs, short emotional notes
[Aspect ratio]
9:16
Tips for adding a little extra
It's better not to overdo it with the lines (①).
1 or 2 is enough.
If you choose 3 or more, the photo will be covered in lines and you won't be able to tell what the photo is.Match the vibe of the text (②) and the decorations (④).
Combining gyaru-style text and lots of hearts with quiet lines is a recipe for disaster (unless that's what you're aiming for). When the comments (③) don't hit the mark, it's faster to get an output from the AI once and then trim it yourself by saying "make it shorter" or "no emojis."
For social media, 9:16 or 4:5 aspect ratios are safe bets. 1:1 also works well for product photography.
The tool I started building late at night just because I "wanted to doodle on photos"
turned into a monster with 16 parts and 5 slots before I knew it.
Well, it was fun, so I guess that's fine.
If you'd like, try transforming one image yourself.
Happy generating.
See you later.
