When I turned my article into slides with AI, my memories became a 'landscape'

— Playing with AI vol.4 | Slide Experience Edition —

If your life were summarized like an 'exhibit'...
how do you think that would make you feel?

I previously enjoyed listening to my own articles by feeding them into NotebookLM to hear them in a radio-style format.

Looking for other ways to enjoy it, I found that someone named Makari was making picture books using their child's illustrations.

You can do that too?! That sounds fun!
Thinking that, I immediately tried it with the article I published the other day🤭

🌿 Memories that were supposed to be just text have risen up as a 'landscape'

First, please take a look at the finished product.
This is the story of how I decided on my current home and what it's like now.

When lined up like this, even though they were just events...

it has become 'one story,' and I am deeply moved.

My house-hunting story begins.

Back then, you could get a gift card just by looking at a model room.

The comfortable place had an atmosphere similar to where I was born and raised.

I somehow avoided names and places related to water.

Why are they letting it go when it's so new? Are there troublesome neighbors? I checked things like that too.

I also had struggles, like kerosene stoves causing terrible condensation and air conditioners not being warm enough.

I longed for a clutter-free space.

My children, who used to do cartwheels, have all grown taller than me.

It is easier to rearrange a room when there is less large furniture.

🌿 It became a document that looks like it belongs in a model home

I thought that when looking for a house, the more information you have and the more places you visit, the easier it is to get confused.

If documents or slideshows like the one I made this time were playing at housing exhibitions, I think it would be interesting and helpful for making a decision.

And then, I showed these slides to my children. They know almost nothing about the process of how we ended up in this house.

What they remember is doing cartwheels and writhing in pain after hitting their little toe. They remember jumping out of the Japanese-style room's closet and playing hero games, doing forward rolls from there.

Even though it was a 'major life decision' for me, for the children, it is just a 'fun memory'.

A lot of nostalgia came flooding back.

🌿 My favorite photo

This time, my absolute favorite was a photo of the family playing in the room.

I felt like everything was packed into this one photo, thinking about how much we had been through.

When they were little, they would spread out Legos, Plarail trains, board games, and cards to play. They also played hero games with transformation belts. When they were in the lower grades, they would connect the Japanese-style room and the living room and do cartwheels just like in the picture. My daughter looked at this image and laughed, asking, 'Is this me?'

And now, it's table tennis. It's too cramped for doubles (laughs). I thought that the way I have built this family is exactly as it is. It is my childhood.

🌿 Making slides with NotebookLM

From here on, I will introduce the steps I actually took. (It can be done in about 10 minutes)

1. Create a new project in NotebookLM

Click "+ New" in the top right.

② Select "Copied Text"

Go to the copied text in the bottom right.

③ Paste your note article and click "Insert" in the bottom right

I copied and pasted my own note article.

④ Click "Slide Presentation" in the top right.

Try a radio style for audio, or experiment with other options too.

⑤ Enter a description for the slides.

Format: "Presenter Slides"
Length: Short
Description: Please enter a description here.
I chose "Please make it like a brochure you'd find at a model home exhibition."

It might also be fun to try various patterns like "magazine interview style" or "picture book style to read to my grandchildren."

Even if you can't think of a description, just enter something and give it a try.

⑥ Click "Generate" in the bottom right.

Once I entered the description and pressed "Enter," it started even without clicking "Generate."
Generation will begin, so please wait a moment. (About 5 minutes?)

Even if you choose something else like audio, you can see the processing status here.

⑦ The finished version will be displayed.

I was surprised that it created a 'proper presentation' beyond my expectations.

8. Save (PDF)

Click '...' and select 'Download PDF document'

I'm not a fan of PDFs. They feel a bit difficult to handle.

9. Save as images in Canva.

I find Canva easier to use than keeping it as a PDF, so I save it here.
The images will be saved in ZIP format.

I chose PNG for the file type.

🌿 Summary

What I felt while making these slides was that it was like something out of the world of 'Doraemon'.

Memories can be turned into text.
But they cannot be turned into video.

When something I thought that about rose up into a 'form' like this,

I had a strange feeling, as if I were looking at my own life from a distance.

Memories are vague and change little by littleover time.

That is precisely why, by leaving them behind like this,
perhaps we can go back to meet 'the version of ourselves from that time'.

For example—
Memories of moving, when your children were small, or a record of a day you don't want to forget.

If you have such note articles, they will surely come back to life in a completely different form☘️

'I wonder what that article would look like if I turned it into slides?'
If you thought that, you might already be taking a step forward.

If you are interested in playing around with AI, please give it a try.

Making them for birthdays or anniversaries would surely make for a wonderful record too✨

If you'd like, please let me know the results of turning your own 'memorable note articles' into slides as well☺️
