A Reward to Soothe Summer Fatigue✨ ~Our Family's Way of Beating the Heat~
Good morning!
I'm Todoko, a former nursery teacher and mom of three😊
Summer vacation has started, and before I knew it, two weeks have already passed.
August is here in the blink of an eye.
Actually, in the first week,
"You've got to be kidding...?"
I was already so exhausted that I thought,
🫠
The stress of being called "Mom"
by the kids all day long.
The stress of household chores that should have been finished long ago,
never getting done because of constant interruptions.
There are many reasons for feeling this worn out, but...
I think the biggest cause of fatigue is definitely
"this abnormal heat"💦
Since I'm not sending the kids off to school
and we're just lounging around at home,
maybe the lack of structure
is just amplifying the fatigue even more...
It feels like I'm not doing anything,
yet I'm just exhausted every single day😭
With summer vacation and this abnormal heat
still set to continue for a while,
I was starting to feel anxious, thinking,
"Will I be okay like this...?"🥲
But over the last few days,
I feel like my body is gradually getting used to
the summer vacation lifestyle and the heat✨

To get through such a hot summer in good spirits,
our family actively enjoys"delicious summer foods"every year💕
Usually, I think to myself, "I shouldn't be too extravagant..."
But only in the summer,
I tell myself,
"It's okay to splurge a little in the summer!"
and we eat delicious things
to beat the heat🤭🌻✨
I'd like to introduce our family's annual tradition😊
🩵Eel

I'm happy we can buy it at a low price✨
I like eel, but until I got married, I didn't really pay much attention to the Day of the Ox.
My husband says,
“We have to eat eel to prevent summer fatigue!”sowe've made it a rule to always eat eel bowls on the Day of the Ox in July every year😋
My first-grade daughter has become terrified of the small bones in eel and won't eat it at all...
Every year she would eat rice with eel sauce saying, “It’s delicious~💕,” but that felt a bit sad,
so this year I made her a
salmon bowl
instead😆
💚Watermelon

Until I got married, I often had opportunities to eat watermelon at work, so I didn't have the habit of buying it myself...
but my husband says,
“We have to eat watermelon to prevent summer fatigue!”so
we've started buying it often every year.
It's not just my husband, but my eldest son especially loves watermelon
and eats an insane amount... so this year I've already bought three large watermelons!!
You never know if it's sweet and delicious until you cut it open,
so I'm incredibly happy when I get a good one☺️
Is there an easy way to tell if a watermelon is delicious?
🩷Peach Cake

to my surprise, it only had half a peach on it...😦
It was delicious, though✨
When I found a cake at a bakery that luxuriously used a whole peach,
my eyes turned into hearts😍
It has custard cream inside the hollowed-out seed part, and there's a tart crust under the peach🍑
When the kids were little, my husband and I would secretly
eat one each😋
This cake can only be eaten during this time of year.
Recently, I've started seeing it in many different shops~🍑
Over a decade ago, it was about 500 yen, but the price has gone up every year... and this year it finally reached 1000 yen😱
Man, the rising cost of living is brutal...
Now I can't finish one by myself, so
I share it with the kids, half each😊
It's a small thing, but for a peach lover like me,
it's a moment of pure bliss✨
🧡Mango and Peach
We purchase mangoes and peaches through the hometown tax donation program,
🥰
For us fruit lovers,
it's an irresistible luxury✨
The peaches haven't arrived yet, so that's something to look forward to,
but the mangoes have already arrived and
we ate them in no time😋
Shockingly, the symptom where my stomach aches after eating mangoes has returned for the first time in several years,
so I couldn't eat much this year😭 I thought I was okay with mangoes now, too💦
Actually, when I was about 28,
I developed the same stomach ache from pineapples, which I used to love, so I can't eat them at all anymore😭
Canned pineapple is fine, though.
Is there anyone else who has similar symptoms?
💜Grapes

These were a great deal I bought at a direct sales stand🉐
I'm a bit picky about grapes, haha.
Actually, where I live now,
there is a famous local brand of grapes that the area is proud of🍇
Going grape picking with the kids was an annual tradition,
but since last year, we've just been buying them at the direct sales stand.
They are incredibly sweet and delicious grapes,
just as good as Shimane grapes💕
As expected, I have a weakness for grapes🥰

So...
I hope to eat delicious food again this summer,
and somehow make it through the hot summer😋
How are you all beating the heat?
Please let me know if you'd like~🌻
Just one last thing.
This time, I participated in the
Kumamoto Support Project.
For those affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto,
【A small step we can take now】to deliver
the #KumamotoSupportProject.
I feel like what I can do has gone from being powerless to being a small contribution.
Maki-chan, thank you for letting me know.
I feel the same way😌
Hanako-san,
thank you for this wonderful initiative.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to everyone affected by the disaster in Kumamoto.
I pray that your daily lives, where you can spend time in peace, will return as soon as possible.
