The Skin: The Boundary Between Inside and Out - Two Care Methods I Reached After Atopic Dermatitis
The reason I haven't changed my skincare routine in over 20 years
There is a term called 'skincare lost'.
Every time a new product comes out, I get curious,
when I hear good reviews, I want to try it,
and before I know it, the bathroom shelf is packed.
I had a time like that, too.
But now, it's just Aquatect Gel and cleansing.
For over 20 years, it's been just these two.
The trigger was adult atopic dermatitis.
The atopic dermatitis that started one day,
spread over my entire body before I knew it.
My whole body was peeling and covered in blood
...nothing I applied worked,
or rather, it felt like the more I applied, the worse it got.
It was painful even to look in the mirror.
I thought it was 'because of my skin type.'
Because I have dry skin. Because I have sensitive skin.
That's what I kept telling myself.
But looking back now, it was a little different.
During my time trying to conceive, there were days when the boundaries I held dear,
were being disrupted.
To put it simply, it was 'stress,' but the result of those days when I couldn't protect my boundaries appeared on my skin.
I think the skin is profound.
In Eastern medicine, the skin is
the boundary that separates the inside from the outside
itself, it is perceived as.
The lungs are said to govern the skin's barrier function through something called 'Wei Qi' (defensive energy).
When the lungs are weakened by stress,
the skin's defensive power also drops suddenly.
And the liver is the place that governs the circulation of Qi.
When liver Qi stagnates due to stress (= stress),
it turns into heat and easily appears on the skin.
In the form of itching, redness, and things like that.
In other words,
'stress that crosses the boundary'
was putting a burden on both the lungs and the liver.
My atopic dermatitis might not have been a sign that 'something is missing,' but a notification that 'your inner boundary is being threatened.'
When I learned that Kampo perspective,
my view of my skin changed.
The only things I rely on now are Earth Care's Aquatect Gel and cleansing.
This brand was developed for himself by the president of Earth Care, who used to suffer from atopic dermatitis.
I tried it with some skepticism, but
before I knew it, I had been using it for over 20 years.
When the products arrive, they come with a letter written about the concept and the latest research at the time.
Reading that is actually something I look forward to.
It's not the 'just additive-free' approach common in natural brands, but a stance of carefully identifying and including only what is necessary. That is a sincere and trustworthy point.
I don't need expensive serums or troublesome face masks.
Everything is completed with just these two.
It's not care that keeps adding things,
but care that uses only what is necessary.
I've recently come to think that regulating circulation
might be more about properly protecting your own boundaries
than about adding something.
I hope this reaches those who are struggling, just like I used to.
For those with sensitive skin or atopic tendencies.
For those who are working hard on their skincare but whose skin won't stabilize.
For those who want to explore the causes of their skin problems from the inside as well.
I won't say this cured me on its own.
Because skin is an issue of the inside as well as the outside.
But now that it's balanced, my skin is complimented much more often.
