2025/08/14 Realizing My Own Rhythm During My Visit Home ~What Becomes Visible When the Environment Changes~
2025/08/14
Watching the scenery flow past the window of the Shinkansen heading back home, I realized that my one-week visit to my parents' house had come to an end.
At my parents' house, the sound of the television was always echoing.
For us, who rarely turn it on at home, it was fresh, but also a bit unsettling for me.
My father did exercises from the morning, my mother made quips at dramas, and my grandparents repeated the same stories over and over.
My nieces, despite being young, spoke passionately about their favorite YouTubers.
Amidst the lively days, my daughters played with sparkling eyes.
There were many sides of my sisters that I could only see because the environment was different from usual.

What the different environment taught me
Pretend play using two whole rooms.
Whenever they practiced cheer dance or piano as usual, applause would erupt from somewhere!
It was a week wrapped in the warmth of having someone always watching over us.
But at the same time, I realized that a series of different environments and experiences is more tiring than I imagined.
Bedtime and wake-up times got later, and even though there were too many fun things to do to even think about napping, for some reason, they also had trouble falling asleep.
The fact that my children's nosebleeds and coughing increased was surely a sign of fatigue.
The "burden that isn't just fun" also became visible.
Even though it flows calmly, an environment where you cannot spend time at your own rhythm is harder than I thought.
Being surrounded by family is warm. However, an environment where you are constantly being interfered with consumes more energy than I imagined.
Important realizations, including the fatigue
Actually, this time, my husband did not accompany us on the visit home, staying here to enjoy festivals and his own time.
The children were angry, asking "Why isn't Dad coming!?", but both I and my parents believe that "he can come whenever he wants to come," and I think that is fine.
Each family member has a pace and sense of distance that makes them feel comfortable. And my parents maintain a supportive stance toward me challenging myself and trying new things.
I want to cherish respecting each other.
Including the fatigue and the negative parts, that was the entirety of this visit home.
The habit of finding small lights
After the liveliness of the visit home, I think that the morning silence is indeed the time that restores my heart.
And, what I want to be conscious of when returning to daily life from here is to "regain my own rhythm".
It doesn't have to be anything grand; just waking up early as usual and taking a deep breath is fine. Just drinking coffee alone in the quiet air is fine.
Even if it's just for 10 minutes, create time to return control to your own heart and body. That is the first step to getting back in balance.

Through the special time of visiting home, I was able to reaffirm the importance of my usual life rhythm and the value of maintaining a pace that is true to myself.
For you, what kind of things trigger you to regain your "own rhythm" where you can spend time comfortably?
By noticing one of those things, tomorrow morning might start a little more gently.
