AI Utilization Techniques for Japanese Teachers Part 1: Audio Generation for Listening (& Reading) Comprehension Exercises
I'm not sure if there will be a part 2 or later, but I've labeled this as part 1 for now.
This article is about specific AI utilization techniques for Japanese teachers. Since I am one myself, this is aimed at AI beginners. It's a small evangelism effort to say, 'It's convenient, so let's try using it!' lol
Listening and reading comprehension exercises. Many of the ones in textbooks sold on the market aren't very interesting... For advanced classes, I used to spend a lot of time researching and creating my own materials.

To summarize briefly,
1, gather information from GPT, Genspark, etc.
2, put 1 into NotebookLM and summarize it into a text. (2, 4 → introduced in AI Utilization Techniques for Japanese Teachers Part 2)
3, load 2 into GPT's Canvas and adjust the level and length. The text is ready! (→ introduced in AI Utilization Techniques for Japanese Teachers Part 3)
4, put 3 back into NotebookLM to create exercises and summarize new vocabulary.
5, convert 3 into audio on the OpenAI page.
→ Listening & reading comprehension exercises complete~~ (30 minutes) 🥳🥳🥳
*If you want to gather more detailed information, use Deep Research in step 1.
*If you want to gather the latest, up-to-date information, it's good to use something like Grok!
Today, I will introduce step 5, audio conversion.
Open GPT and click 'Explore GPTs' in the sidebar.
FM Voice Prompter. Search for it. Then, request the voice or reading style you are looking for. This time, I typed in 'Calm voice/reading aloud/quiet/pay attention to punctuation'.
It will then create a prompt for you.
Paste this prompt into...
Paste it here.
Then, copy and paste (or type) the manuscript you want read aloud into the space at the bottom right.
Press PLAY at the bottom right and it will read it aloud.
*When I tried it, it didn't work unless I split up long texts. It seems it can only read about half the amount of this area.
Press DOWNLOAD and you can download it lol
Everything is free!
It's a natural reading style for an AI, so I think it's good.
The downside is that it can't read long texts all at once, so I generated them in separate pieces, but I feel like the tone of the voice is slightly different each time...
I wish I could generate it all at once.
For now, I'll try using it in class 👍
→ Update: I used it the next day. The listening practice went perfectly. Also, we were able to discuss the truth about the accident in the materials, and although the content was serious, it was a success!
*Regarding the OpenAI page, it seems this is set up as a trial, so there is a possibility it might suddenly disappear or become unavailable.
At least it's available as of the time I'm writing this article, so teachers who are interested, please give it a try!
