[No. 363] Successfully Sprouted—Progress Report on Ginger Cultivation 🌱🫚
The ginger I planted in April.
As for what happened after that, it has successfully sprouted and is continuing to grow little by little.
I would like to record this as a progress report.

That is what is truly alive.
This soil teaches me that.
About three months have passed since then.
There isn't a huge change every day, but before I knew it, the sprouts had grown and the leaves had increased.
The growth of plants is a mysterious thing.
When you look at them every day, it's hard to notice the changes.
However, when you compare photos, you can see that it is definitely moving forward.
The current state of ginger cultivation 🌱🫚
For this ginger cultivation, I tried something a little different.
I enclosed it with corrugated metal, dug a trench around it, and secured it with soil.
Honestly, it doesn't look very neat.
It has successfully sprouted and is growing little by little.
It is still small, but it seems to be moving forward for sure.
I look forward to watching over it until the autumn harvest.
It feels more like a ridge made through trial and error than a pretty home garden.
Even so, I had my own reasons.
・Adjusting drainage
・Preventing soil erosion
・Suppressing weed invasion
I don't know if this is the right answer.
However, there are many things you cannot know until you actually try them.
While you can learn about farming from books and videos, there are parts that you ultimately have to test for yourself.
In that sense, this ginger patch is something of an experiment.
It is a relief when they sprout 🌱🫚
Right after planting, you have no idea what is happening underground.
Will they really sprout?
Have they rotted?
I sometimes think about things like that.
That is precisely why I felt a little relieved when I found the first sprout.
This might be a matter of course when you keep a farm.
Even so, I think sprouting is an important first step.
They are still small now.
However, as the temperature rises from here on, they will grow even more.
What will they look like by the time summer passes and autumn arrives?
I am looking forward to it.

Along with the scent of the soil, a refreshing aroma spreads through the autumn kitchen—
In 2025, I was able to harvest beautiful and magnificent ginger.
I still remember the joy of the moment I dug them up.
The ginger that appeared from the soil has a unique aroma.
When I smell that scent, I feel glad that I farm.
Of course, it doesn't always go the same way every year.
The weather is different.
The environment is different.
That is exactly why it is interesting.
I would be happy if I could have a harvest like last year's again this year.
Ginger that plays an active role at the dining table 🌱🫚
Ginger isn't finished once it's harvested.
In fact, the real work might start after the harvest.
Use it as a condiment.
Add it to chilled tofu.
Add it to somen noodles.
It also goes well with fish dishes.
It also goes well with meat dishes.
Just adding a small amount makes the aroma rise and changes the impression of the dish.
I use ginger casually every day, but it feels a little special when I use something I grew myself.
It is also a moment when the field and the dining table are connected.
I think such pleasures are one of the charms of home gardening.

Of course, it may be affected by heat or rain from here on out.
Even so, it has successfully sprouted for now.
That alone is enough to make me happy.
I will continue to watch over it, hoping to write another article about the harvest around October.
