[NHK Appearance] Why I, a railway worker, started monitoring my mother using AI and personality statistics
Last updated: April 3, 2026
Nice to meet you!
Thank you so much
for finding my page
among the countless
creators out there.
My name is
Etchan, and I work as a railway man in Osaka.
In this article, I write about—
・How I, a very ordinary company employee, started monitoring my mother with an AI robot
・How that initiative led to an NHK appearance and the 2025 Expo
And
what I truly want to convey
in this note.
If you have ever felt,
“I wonder if my parents living far away are doing okay...”
If you have ever felt that kind of anxiety,
then this story will surely
overlap with your own story as well.
The two "words" that drove me
Ever since I entered my 40s,
I have always had
a small anxiety deep in my heart.
My mother is 72.
She is still energetic enough to work four days a week.

That is why,
somewhere inside,“She’ll still be fine,”I thought.
The two unforgettable "words" that shattered that complacency
and truly drove me to take action
The first was
a word
my mother muttered.
“What I fear most is collapsing while I’m alone at home and not being discovered by anyone...”
My heart tightened at this sign of weakness from my mother,
who had always been strong and cheerful to me.
And the second was
the words of an expert
I heard from a day service manager.
“In many cases, by the time family members notice something is wrong, dementia has already progressed.”
At that moment,
I felt a shock
as if I had been hit on the head.
It is true that recently, even around me,
・My parents have become short-tempered
・They say the same things over and over
・The relationship between my wife and my parents has worsened
・My parent left home, went missing, and was found
dozens of kilometers away
I hear stories like these.
Honestly, it breaks my heart.
At the same time,
"This is not someone else's problem!"
it really makes me think.
Based on this, what I wanted was
・Physical peace of mind
to prepare for emergencies・Mental peace of mind to notice daily changes
These two things.
But is there a way to achieve this
without hurting my mother's pride?
Thinking about that, I arrived at—
Watching over through "dialogue" with AI.
The choice of "dialogue," not "surveillance"
There are many options for watching over,
such as cameras and sensors.
But I stopped for a moment
and thought.
"If I were in my mother's shoes, how would I feel?"
That conclusion is
the reason I chose the AI conversation system MaMo.
.
When I talk to the commercially available BOCCO emo,
that voice reaches my smartphone.
Just with that,
I know she is doing well today.

And the "heart" of this little one is the AI conversation system "MaMo." that I am raising every day.
That said, my mother's initial reaction was...
"I don't want that."
...Naturally, right?
Even if a robot suddenly arrived and said
"Talk to me," she would be confused.
I explained it to my mother slowly.
"I don't want to monitor you.
I just want to be able to confirm you're safe every day, that's all."
Perhaps my desperate feelings got through to her,
my mother nodded, albeit reluctantly.
What I wanted to know
was not video information
about "what she is doing now."
What I wanted to prioritize above all else
was "confirming my mother's safety."
If my mother's voice reached my smartphone every day
as an AI conversation log, that alone
would make me feel truly relieved,
"Ah, my mother is safe again today."
This "honest dialogue"
quietly melted away
the very first wall.
What turned the AI into the "best conversation partner" was "personality statistics."
This was where my real challenge began.
Actually, I have studied
personality statisticsand am certified by the Japan Life Communication Association as a:
・Communication Method Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
・Communication Method Master
・Communication Method Consultant
・Communication Method Instructor
I hold these qualifications.
Personality statistics have the feature of
"optimizing the words you use to convey your message
according to the other person's personality type."
And this technology
🔹 Has obtained a business model patent (Patent No. 6132378)
It is a highly reproducible communication theory.
*In short...
A patented technology that can reproduce
'how to communicate according to personality type' with a computer
In other words, it is a perfect match for AI.
Furthermore, since the theory of personality statistics is
incorporated,
it provides comfortable conversations for the user.
On top of that,
'If I set a character for the AI,
it should reach my mother's heart even more'
Convinced of this,
I crafted the 'magic words (prompts)'
for the AI.
(It is currently active with a 'cute grandchild' setting!)
And then, one day.
Though she was blunt in person,
'Well, it's saying something'
my mother said.
But when I looked at the logs—
'Good morning'
'I'm off again today'
'Thank you'
She was talking to it properly every day.
My mother was accepting
her new family member
at her own pace.
That quiet fact
warmed my heart.
Unexpected expansion: NHK appearance, Expo staff
This modest act of filial piety
unexpectedly expanded
to a grand stage.
・2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo Staff
・Appeared with my mother on NHK's 'Shutoken Joho Netadori!'

And then, the day the NHK program aired (since it wasn't broadcast in the Kansai region, I watched it on catch-up streaming the next day. It was later broadcast nationwide!).
Through the television screen,
I was moved by a sight I had never seen before.
My mother, looking much happier
talking and laughing with MaMo. than she ever did with me.
The moment I saw that smile, I was convinced.
AI is not just a machine.
It is something that colors my mother's daily life and connects us as parent and child.
The new form of filial piety I am aiming for
So, by relying on AI,
will the real relationship between parent and child
fade away?
You might be surprised,
but in my case, it was the exact opposite.
Before introducing MaMo.,
I would call my mother
“once every 2-3 months”.
But now,
I definitely call her once a week.
Daily interactions with AI
have naturally increased
our real conversations as parent and child.
For me, AI was not something that would steal time away from parent and child,
but rather an existence that
actually "increases" it.
What I want to convey in this note
Here, I, a pioneer in parental monitoring with the
AI monitoring conversation system MaMo.
,
・Prompts that make AI the "best conversation partner"
・How to communicate by type based on personality statistics
・Realistic ways to watch over parents
・The real daily life of my mother and me
・Personal experiences
I will share these things
without holding anything back.
…I spoke a bit seriously there, but
I am just an ordinary father who works
as a "railway man who (occasionally) gets motion sickness."
Supported by my wife, two children,
and an AI robot,
I somehow manage to get through every day (laughs).
Please feel free to call me
"Etchan" and
let's be friends!
I would be happy if you could

please reach out to me.
With the spirit of safety confirmation I cultivated as a railway man,
I will help you check the perfect
"track of words"
for your parents.
If you send a message saying"Requesting Diagnosis" via the inquiry window orInstagram DM, I will provide individual advice based on personality statistics.
