[Muscle Training] I tried home training with something unexpected: The results of buying two 20L water tanks 💪🚰 ~A workout that kills two, or even three, birds with one stone by stockpiling while training your body~
Introduction
Japan is known as a country with many earthquakes 🇯🇵
Because of this, many households likely stockpile food and water on a regular basis.
Among these, water is particularly important.
Since there is a possibility of water outages during disasters, it is said that 3 liters per person per day is necessary 🤔
Generally, it is said that a 3 to 7-day supply is the standard.
Of course, this is close to the bare minimum, so I think it's more reassuring to actually stockpile a bit more.
Above all, I want to increase my chances of survival 💦
The Trigger
There are three reasons why I decided to stockpile water this time.
The first is that around March 2026, the water storage rate of the Ure Dam in Shinshiro City, Aichi Prefecture, dropped to zero.
The second is because there was a recent earthquake with its epicenter near Nara.
The third is that I myself had gone to Nara Prefecture to watch the preliminary round of NHK's Nodojiman,
and I started thinking, 'It would be bad if I didn't take some kind of measure... 🤔'
as if it were my own problem.
While traveling and going on expeditions is fun, you often go to places where you don't know the lay of the land.
That is precisely why
I felt once again the importance of
'being prepared even a little bit at all times'.
So, I bought two of these👇

By the way, I bought them at a home improvement store.
I think they are also sold on Amazon and similar sites.
If I recall correctly, the price was around 2,000 to 3,000 yen for two🤔
Considering them as workout equipment, they fall into a very cheap category.
Plus, they also serve the purpose of stockpiling.
However...
"Just leaving them there feels a bit...🤔"
So I thought, I'll try using these tanks for home muscle training💪
🦵Squats
20L x 2 units
50 reps x 1 set
They're actually pretty heavy😇
And since it's water, it sloshes around inside.
Unlike dumbbells or barbells,
the center of gravity shifts slightly, so it's surprisingly tough.
It also requires stability.
It feels like...
I'm doing a workout that 'intentionally creates instability'.
By the way,
the price of my dumbbells (adjustable 40kg x 2)
was about 30,000 yen (including shipping) orz
💥Push-ups
20 reps x 1 set
No push-up bars needed.
Place your hands on the tanks and do push-ups.
It adds height, and
it's actually not bad.
🌀 Kettlebell-style training
20L x 1 tank
1 set of 10 reps
I tried swinging it around.
It's huge.
And heavy 🤣
I mean, a kettlebell (adjustable 18kg) was 8,980 yen (including shipping)... orz
But this actually works pretty well.
Since it uses your grip strength and core,
it feels more like a full-body workout than I imagined.
🔥 Ab bench
1 set of 50 reps
This has nothing to do with the tanks; it's just my usual routine.
Continuing with the ab exercises.
💡 Thoughts after actually trying it
Even if you don't have kettlebells, dumbbells,
or push-up bars,
you can surprisingly get a good workout with 'water tanks' 😳
And what's more...
✅ You can create resistance with up to two 20L tanks
✅ Much cheaper than dumbbells
✅ Doubles as emergency supplies
✅ Serves as disaster preparedness
✅ The contents can be used as drinking water
It comes with these benefits.
Plus, after your workout,
you can even use that water to make your protein shake 🥤💪
In my case,
I also do hydroponics, so I use the water for that as well.
I haven't written an article about it lately, but I'm still continuing it.🌱
It's very efficient.
🤔My honest thoughts
Thinking about it now,
kettlebells,
push-up bars,
dumbbells
before buying those,
I think it might have been better to buy these first to train,
and then purchase professional equipment once the weight was no longer enough.
If you look only at the cost,
Strength training gear: approx. 40,000 yen -> Water tanks: approx. 3,000 yen
(a savings equivalent to about 37,000 yen)
Of course, professional equipment is easier to use.
But,
"I want to start training at home for now"
"I want to combine it with disaster preparedness"
"I want to keep costs down"
for people like that,
I think this is a very viable option💪
