On one side, there are companies building massive AI-centric ecosystems and attempting to deploy their technology to the global market.

On the other side, there are companies that cannot secure sufficient sales within China and are seeking a way out overseas to survive.

Zotye and Skyworth are cited as symbols of this.

Some of these companies are even moving into emerging markets like India by utilizing a knockdown method, where they export vehicles as parts to be assembled locally rather than exporting finished cars.

This is to survive in new markets while avoiding the high tariffs imposed on finished vehicles.

Intense polarization in the Chinese EV market

On one hand, cars are being born that use AI to understand human emotions, interpret causal relationships in the physical world, and drive themselves.

Massive AI ecosystems and Robotaxi operation networks for that purpose have even begun to be built.

On the other hand, manufacturers that can no longer survive in the domestic market are seeking a way out in emerging countries, even if it means breaking down vehicles into parts.

AI-native cars attempting to lead the world, and 'zombie EVs' searching for mere survival.

The simultaneous existence of these two extremes is exactly what symbolizes the current Chinese automotive industry.

When we stop being conscious of AI, the real change begins

And there is one more important change.

AI is gradually passing the stage where products sell just by promoting that they are 'AI-equipped'.

What consumers are looking for is not AI itself. It is having a comfortable environment created when they are tired. It is driving safely by predicting danger. It is being taken to their destination reliably without having to drive themselves.

Consumers may eventually stop being conscious of whether that is being realized by AI or by some other technology.

Just as we do not think about the mechanics of breathing when we inhale, the moment we stop being conscious of AI altogether may be the moment AI truly permeates the automobile in the truest sense.

At that point, another question arises.

If a car were to become like a 'best friend' that understands your daily fatigue and even your mood, anticipating what you want before you even realize it yourself, would humans choose that convenience even at the cost of giving up the freedom to drive?

Or would we feel a sense of fear toward a machine that knows far too much about us?

The rapid AI automobile experiments underway in China are beginning to question not only the future of technology, but the very relationship between humans and automobiles.
