Motivational Habits for Opening New Doors
In a quiet room, I wrap both hands around a clear cup containing tea that has gone lukewarm.
I happen to look out the window and see the twilight sky slowly melting into indigo.
I spent another day getting through my work, being considerate of others, and somehow making it through.
Yet, deep in my chest, there is an indescribable, murky sediment accumulating.
Should I have avoided saying it that way back then?
Small, lingering regrets from the past sit heavily in the pit of my stomach, like food that cannot be fully digested.
We live our daily lives carrying many unresolved emotions.
We worry endlessly about a casual remark from someone, or replay a failed choice over and over in our heads late at night.
It is like continuing to hoard old junk in the back of a drawer in our hearts.
Even if we pretend not to see it and keep the lid closed, stagnant air leaks out from the slight gaps, quietly draining our current energy.
We are simply letting the small, undigested issues of the moment pile up until the memory of our hearts is about to crash.
There are nights when other people's success stories or the high-quality 'correct answers' created by someone else feel painfully distant.
I blame myself for not being like them, driven by the impatience of someone who has nothing.
But what if the moment when imitating others no longer resonates is actually a turning point in the true sense?
The reason the rails laid by someone else no longer look dazzling is that you are ready to start walking a new path on your own two feet.
It is okay to be clumsy.
It is okay if you cannot smile perfectly.
Just take another look at where you are standing right now.
The secret to improving your luck is nothing grand.
It is to gently let go of the yardstick of other people's evaluations and give yourself a generous score for having survived today.
It does not have to be perfect.
Even if things did not go well, you are the one who knows best the gritty, determined steps you took to try and live through today.
As you surrender yourself to the silence of the night, gently embrace your own shoulders for having done your best throughout the day.
With just that, a new door to tomorrow will open silently and without a sound.
