When watching movies, there are times when certain phrasings stay with you in a strange way.
Even though the content itself is simple, there are moments when the rhythm and timing of the English turn words from mere 'dialogue' into an 'experience.' Even though I'm following along with the subtitles, I find myself repeating just that one phrase in my head over and over.
It feels a bit embarrassing when translated into Japanese. A literal translation results in a strange temperature.
But I think that very 'embarrassment' or 'strangeness' is exactly what makes the patterns of overseas conversation so interesting.
Today, I'd like to summarize those—
phrases that are hard to translate into Japanese, yet somehow cool
