Creative Notes in the AI Era | I feel like too many people are too hard on themselves about 'not being read' (#CreativeTheory #GenerativeAI #ImageGenerationAI #WebNovels #note #Essay #Creation)
Rather than a finished answer, this is a rough note on something I've been thinking about for a while.
Hello. Good evening.
My name is Ura-Hyoshi, and I usually write light novels.
On a lonely night when a single 'like' trickled in,
I suddenly decided to look something up.
And then, I learned.
That on note, tens of thousands of articles are posted every single day.
If you think about this with a normal perspective, it's quite abnormal, and
if you were to replace it with a real-world store,
'40,000 to 50,000 new products are placed on the shelves all at once every day'
is the kind of situation it's in.
Even if you divide them by genre, thousands still end up on the same shelf.
Moreover, the next day, another massive wave of new products flows in.
When you think about it that way,
'not being found by anyone'
started to feel like the more natural outcome.
But when we get little reaction, we tend to
'My writing must be bad'
'I have no talent'
andeasily turn the cause toward ourselves.
I do that too, so I really understand.
Even though the article next to mine got a bunch of 'likes' in just a few minutes?is how it feels.
However, lately,
I feel that individual reactions aren't just about the quality of the work,
but are heavily influenced by this'ultra-high-speed distribution environment'
itself.
Of course, polishing your own articles is important, but
the market structure itself is not
'If it's good, it will definitely be found'
It's like we're no longer living in that kind of world.
After all, there are people with impressive titles and
wonderful content, yet
“Wait? This person only has single-digit likes!?”
You know, it's surprising, isn't it?
Is that really a matter of their ability?
It's definitely not, right?
And yet, when it comes to ourselves, we suddenly
blame our 'ability' for the number of 'likes'.
It's strange, isn't it?
We can look at others objectively, but when it comes to ourselves, we always cast a harsh gaze.
That's why I think
we can be kinder to ourselves more often.
Because, fundamentally, creation
shouldn't be something used to measure human worth with numbers.
So, attributing everything to 'lack of ability'
is just wrong, I thought
on a humid night with 61% humidity,
vaguely thinking about such things.
Afterword:
It's really strange how we can honestly think 'You deserve more recognition!' for someone else's article, but suddenly become harsh when it's our own.
In psychology, this is apparently called the 'Solomon's Paradox'. It's just that we can't handle things well when it comes to ourselves. While I say 'you can be kinder to yourself,' perhaps these are words I'm actually directing at myself. Because it's not something that can be neatly resolved, I feel a little saved just by having others who are feeling the same way think, 'I'm not the only one.' Sorry for the night without answers 💦
