5 Simple Prompts for Creating Decent Diagrams with ChatGPT + α [Image Generation AI]
Since more people read my previous article than I expected, I will continue the series by covering ChatGPT's new image generation (4o Image Generation)!
This time, let's focus on "diagrams," which seem to have high practical utility.
[Previous Article]
To start with what kind of diagrams you can create, you can make images like the eye-catching one at the top, and for vertical formats suitable for smartphones, you can also create ones like the image below.

Like this, creating high-level diagrams equipped with illustrations, icons, and text is something unique to the latest version of ChatGPT, and I think it's something that other generative AIs struggle to do on their own. It can be made with good visibility, and it's so natural that if you overlook the slight awkwardness in the text or layout, you wouldn't even realize it was AI-generated.
I put a fair amount of effort into the prompt for the diagram above, but from playing around with it a bit, I felt that you can create sophisticated diagrams even with quite rough prompts.
So, in this article, I will introduce 5 simple and useful ones plus a little extra.
Note that the images in this article were created using 4o Image Generation (ChatGPT, the main image generation AI for Sora).
Since Sora can currently generate two images at a time, I will introduce examples of images generated via Sora this time.
✅ Diagrams created with rough prompts
From here on, let's actually try creating diagrams using "rough prompts." First, here is the pattern of generating without specifying anything in particular.
Prompt: "Create a diagram about note"

It creates a decent-looking diagram like this without any specific instructions. However,
since the design and layout direction are not fixed, whether it becomes the design you intended depends on luck. Also, it basically won't result in an elaborate design.
That said, there are times when it's a hassle to give various instructions and refine it, so I will introduce simple prompts to improve quality while narrowing down the design direction to some extent below. (*Please forgive any strange text that appears, as I haven't done any text correction...)
① Modern design diagram
Prompt: "Create a modern design diagram about note"

Adding 'modern design' will likely give it a simple and sophisticated feel.
② Professional diagrams for businesses
Prompt: 'Create a professional diagram for businesses about note'

Including words like 'for business' or 'professional' helps increase the quality.
③ Notion-style diagrams

This results in a simple, text-based look.
④ Diagrams that convey information at a glance
Prompt: 'Create a diagram that conveys information at a glance about note'

By using many diagrams and icons, it becomes easier to understand.
⑤ Infogram-style infographics
Prompt: 'Infogram-style infographic. About note'

The design is elaborate, giving it a rich overall atmosphere.
Example of a combined prompt
Finally, here is one example of a combined prompt.
Prompt: 'A diagram about note, like an IR document. Simple and sophisticated layout. Modern fonts and color scheme. Professional atmosphere.'

I haven't given it any overly complex instructions here either, but I think it turned out simple and easy to understand.
✅ You can improve quality and reproducibility by refining it further
As shown so far, you can create high-quality results without needing elaborate instructions.
However, by refining your prompts, you gain the benefits of being able to improve quality, being able to get closer to your preferences, and being able to increase reproducibility.
Let's look at a concrete example of a prompt for this as well.
Prompt:
A simple, vertically oriented diagram with a clean look.
Theme: About "note"
Place a large, iconic image and a bold title at the very top.
Include the following in each section at the bottom:
・Icon on the left
・Explanatory text on the right (Japanese)
・Arranged side-by-side in rounded white boxes
Design features are as follows:
・Pale pastel colors of mint green and beige
・Modern flat design
・Vector-style illustration
・Minimalist and professional impression

Like this, you can create simple, highly visible designs with good reproducibility.
The response accuracy to prompts is significantly higher than before, so it's relatively easy to create things exactly as intended (*excluding Kanji characters).
In addition, once you create a template for a prompt, another advantage is that it can be applied elsewhere.
Below, let's use the prompt for the image at the beginning as a base and change various things.
For example, try giving the character cat ears and having them hold a megaphone.

You can also change it to an excited male character and give the whole thing a chic atmosphere.

Of course, you can also change the content and layout.

With that in mind, I think it's a good idea to create a few specific prompts that you like as templates so you can reuse them while maintaining consistency. It might take a little time at first, but once you've made them, it's easy afterward, and the process of creating them is actually quite fun.
Also, while the image above was created using only text-based prompts, this update now allows for image references as well, so there are many other ways to do things, but I will omit those for now.
✅ Summary: Easily create diagrams with ChatGPT
This time, I covered diagrams created with ChatGPT.
Diagrams have a wide range of uses, but for example, being able to create summary-style diagrams like the eye-catching image for this article can be a major benefit for blog posts.
I think you can include them at the beginning or end of a blog post as a summary, which can also make your message easier to convey.
That is all for this time.
I would be happy if you could 'like' this if you found it helpful.
See you next time.
