How We Work

Our Editorial Policy

Luxor  ·  Upper Egypt

The standards, principles, and processes that guide every article, guide, and page published on Explore Luxor

Last updated: April 2026

Our Mission

Explore Luxor exists to make the history, culture, and heritage of Luxor — ancient Thebes — accessible to everyone in the world. We believe that the knowledge of one of humanity’s greatest civilisations should not be locked behind academic paywalls, travel budgets, or language barriers.

Our editorial mission is simple: publish content that is accurate, accessible, and honest. Every article, guide, and page on this site is held to that standard, regardless of its subject matter, length, or format.

In short: We write for the curious traveller, the student, the researcher, and the lifelong learner. We do not write for search engines, advertisers, or sponsors. Our first obligation is always to the reader.

Accuracy & Fact-Checking

Accuracy is the foundation of everything we publish. Before any historical claim, date, name, or figure is published on Explore Luxor, it is verified against at least one — and typically multiple — credible sources.

Our fact-checking process includes:

Cross-referencing historical claims against peer-reviewed academic publications, Egyptological journals, and recognised reference works
Consulting qualified Egyptologists, archaeologists, and historians for specialist content
Verifying practical travel information directly against official sources including the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities
Editorial review by a senior team member before publication of any substantive historical or archaeological claim

We acknowledge that Egyptology is an evolving field. Where scholarly debate exists, we represent multiple positions fairly rather than presenting a single view as definitive.

Sources & References

We draw our content from a range of credible sources. Our primary references include:

Academic publications — journals including the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, Göttinger Miszellen, and publications of the Oriental Institute
Official institutions — the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, UNESCO World Heritage documentation, and the Supreme Council of Antiquities
Established reference works — The Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt, Wilkinson’s Complete Temples of Ancient Egypt, and comparable scholarly references
Field expertise — licensed Egyptologists, tour guides, archaeologists, and local historians based in Luxor
First-hand research — on-the-ground verification of practical information including opening hours, access, fees, and visitor conditions

We do not publish claims sourced exclusively from Wikipedia, uncredited websites, or social media posts. Where a source is contested or uncertain, we say so explicitly in the text.

Editorial Independence

Explore Luxor is an editorially independent platform. Our content decisions — what we cover, how we frame it, and what conclusions we draw — are made entirely by our editorial team and are not influenced by commercial, governmental, or third-party interests.

We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage, positive reviews, or placement in our guides. No article on this site has been sponsored, commissioned, or influenced by a tourism operator, hotel, government body, or advertiser.

Where we mention specific tour operators, hotels, or services in our travel guides, these inclusions are based solely on editorial judgement. We receive no commission or payment for these mentions.

Corrections Policy

We take errors seriously. When a factual mistake is identified — whether reported by a reader, flagged by an expert, or discovered by our own team — we correct it promptly and transparently.

Our corrections process:

Minor errors (spelling, formatting, broken links) are corrected silently and immediately
Factual errors are corrected with a visible note at the top or bottom of the article explaining what was changed and why
Significant errors that materially misrepresent historical events are corrected prominently, with a full explanation of the original error and the corrected information
We never delete or silently overwrite substantive content to conceal an error

To report an error, please email [email protected] with the article title and the specific claim you believe to be incorrect. We aim to respond within 48 hours.

Content Updates

Luxor is a living city and an active archaeological site. Opening hours change, entrance fees are revised, new tombs are opened, and scholarship advances. We are committed to keeping our content current.

Practical information (fees, hours, access) is reviewed and updated at least annually, and immediately when we become aware of changes
Historical content is reviewed when significant new research or discoveries are published
Archaeology news is updated as new excavation announcements are made by official bodies

Substantially updated articles display a “Last updated” date so readers can assess the currency of the information. If you notice outdated information, please let us know via [email protected].

Contributions & Guest Content

Explore Luxor welcomes contributions from qualified Egyptologists, archaeologists, historians, photographers, and experienced travel writers with deep knowledge of Luxor and ancient Egypt.

All contributed content is subject to the same editorial standards as our in-house writing:

All factual claims must be supported by credible sources, which must be provided to our editors
Contributed content may be edited for clarity, accuracy, tone, and length
We do not publish promotional content, advertorial, or pieces that serve a commercial interest without clear disclosure
Contributors must disclose any conflicts of interest relevant to the topic
All submitted content must be original and not previously published elsewhere

To pitch a contribution, email [email protected] with a brief outline of your proposed article and your relevant credentials.

AI & Technology

Explore Luxor uses technology tools — including AI-assisted tools — to support our editorial workflow. We are transparent about how these tools are used and how they are not.

AI is not used to generate factual historical content, archaeological claims, or travel information that is published without human review and verification
AI tools may assist with drafting, editing for clarity, formatting, and translation — all output is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication
All factual content on this site is the responsibility of our human editorial team, regardless of the tools used in its production
We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, invent sources, or generate misleading content of any kind
