How Explore Luxor is funded, how we handle commercial relationships, and why our editorial independence always comes first

Last updated: May 2026

Quick Summary

We believe you deserve to know exactly how Explore Luxor makes money and how – or whether – that affects what we write. This page explains everything, plainly and completely.

The short version: Explore Luxor is funded through display advertising (via Mediavine), affiliate links, and occasional disclosed partnerships. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage, and our content recommendations are based entirely on editorial judgement. Every revenue source is disclosed here, and our funding never influences what we write, recommend, or link to.

How We Are Funded

Explore Luxor is an independent platform. Running it requires time, research, writing, photography, and technical maintenance. We are transparent about how we cover these costs.

Email Newsletter (Brevo)
Our free newsletter is managed via Brevo. We never share or sell subscriber email addresses. We may offer a paid tier in the future – this will be clearly disclosed.
Affiliate Links
On some pages we use affiliate links – we earn a small commission if you book or buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Always disclosed.
Disclosed Partnerships
Occasional partnerships with organisations that align with our mission. Always clearly labelled and never influence editorial content.
Display Advertising (Mediavine)
We serve display ads through Mediavine. Ads may be personalised based on your browsing behaviour. You can manage preferences via Mediavine privacy settings on this site.

Display Advertising

Explore Luxor is a member of the Mediavine ad network. Mediavine is a full-service ad management platform that works with advertising partners to serve ads that may be personalised based on your browsing behaviour, interests, and device information.

Your ad choices: Mediavine provides a privacy options link in the footer of our site. You can also opt out via the Digital Advertising Alliance or Your Online Choices (EU).

The presence of display advertising does not influence our editorial content.

Affiliate Links

Some pages on Explore Luxor contain affiliate links. If you click on a link and make a purchase or booking, we may earn a small commission – at no additional cost to you.

Booking platforms – hotel and accommodation booking sites such as Booking.com
Tour and experience platforms – we are a partner of Viator (a Tripadvisor company). If you book through a Viator link we may earn a commission
Travel services – visa services, travel insurance, or transport booking platforms
Books and publications – relevant books through services such as Amazon Associates
Important: The presence of an affiliate link does not mean we endorse the product unconditionally. Our recommendations are based on editorial judgement first.

Partnerships & Collaborations

Explore Luxor occasionally enters into partnerships with organisations whose values and mission align with ours. Our rules for any partnership are strict:

Any commercial partnership is disclosed clearly on any content connected to that partner
Partners do not have editorial control over or approval rights for our content
We do not change, soften, or omit criticism of a partner in any content
We will terminate any partnership if we determine it compromises our editorial integrity

Current commercial partnerships: None at this time. This section will be updated if and when any partnerships are established.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial decisions – what we cover, how we cover it, what we recommend, and what we criticise – are made entirely by our editorial team. No advertiser, affiliate partner, sponsor, government body, or commercial interest influences our content.

We will write critically about a service we have an affiliate relationship with if our honest assessment warrants it
We will recommend services we have no financial relationship with if they genuinely serve our readers best
We do not adjust our coverage based on whether a business advertises with us

Our full editorial standards are described in our Editorial Policy.

Email Newsletter

Explore Luxor publishes a free newsletter managed via Brevo. Subscribing is free and we never share or sell subscriber email addresses. If we ever include a sponsored message in a newsletter edition, it will be clearly labelled as such.

How to Spot Disclosures

We make disclosures easy to find. Here is what to look for:

Affiliate link pages – a notice at the top reading: “This page contains affiliate links. If you book through these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.”
Sponsored content – prominently labelled “Sponsored” or “Paid Partnership” at the very top. Currently: none.
Partnership content – labelled “In partnership with [name]” at the top of the relevant page or section
Complimentary experiences – noted within the article text, e.g. “We visited as guests of [name]. This did not influence our assessment.”

If you ever read a page and are unsure whether any commercial relationship exists, please email us at [email protected].

Questions & Feedback

Transparency is not a document – it is a practice. If you have any questions about our funding, our commercial relationships, or anything on this page, we want to hear from you.

Email us at [email protected]. We read every message and respond personally.
