Motorola's 2023 Razr lineup has been in the news for quite some time now. There has been a steady flow of leaks and rumors over the last couple of months, especially since Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang confirmed the arrival of a new handset. We can finally put all the rumors and speculations to rest as the new Moto Razr and Razr+ foldables are officially here in the United States. That's right, we have two new flip phones that'll go toe-to-toe with Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5. You can't buy these phones flip phones in the U.S. market just yet, but they're starting to look pretty exciting. If you're equally thrilled about Motorola's 2023 Razr lineup and want to learn more about these phones before getting your hands on them, then you've come to the right place. Here's everything you need to know about the new Motor Razr and Razr+ 2023 models.
Motorola Razr and Razr+: Pricing and availability
Both Moto Razr and Moto Razr+ will be available in the U.S. market, but we only have the pricing and availability details of the Razr+ right now. The Moto Razr — presumably the more affordable model of the two — is currently listed as "available in the coming months," and we don't know how much it'll cost. As for the Razr+ model, it'll be available for pre-order on motorola.com and through select carriers and retailers on June 16, and it will be available for sale starting June 23.
The new Moto Razr and Razr+ are called Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, respectively, in markets outside the U.S.
The company will offer the Razr+ in 8GB + 256GB configuration, which is priced at $1,000. It undercuts the 256GB variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 by $60, and it'll be interesting to see how it stacks up against the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5. The unlocked models of the Razr+ will be available for sale at Best Buy, Amazon, and motorola.com, whereas those who like getting their phones from carriers can stop by AT&T, T-Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, Google Fi Wireless, and Optimum Mobile to grab this new foldable.

Moto Razr and Razr+: Design and build quality
As per some of the rumors and images that we previously saw, we have two Moto Razr models this year. They're both flip phones that can fold and transform into a more pocketable device when not in use, but there are some major differences between the two. They're both made out of 7000 series aluminum and use Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the internal and external displays, but only the regular Razr model and the Viva Magenta variant of the Razr+ come with vegan leather finishing. The regular Moto Razr will be available in Sage Green, Vanilla Cream, and Summer Lilac colors. In contrast, the Moto Razr+ model will be up for grabs in Infinite Black, Glacier Blue, and Viva Magenta colors.
But phones have the same form factor and dimensions overall, but the Razr+ is a hair thinner. They both weigh around 188g, except the Viva Magenta variant, which is a touch lighter, coming in at 184.5g. They also carry an IP52 rating, meaning they're both dust and water-resistant up to a certain degree. The Razr+ model looks a lot more modern and practical to use with its bigger external display, but you'll have to pick up the Viva Magenta variant if you want the vegan leather finish.
Moto Razr and Razr+: Display
One of the biggest differences between the Moto Razr and Razr+ is that the latter has a bigger external display that spans almost the entire front half of the phone. It even wraps around the two cameras and the flash module, making it look unique and modern. The external display on the Razr+ measures 3.6 inches and supports 1066 x 1056 resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the regular Moto Razr's external display is a 1.5-inch OLED panel with 194 x 368 resolution and support for up to 60Hz refresh rate. The external panel on the Moto Razr is even smaller than the one you get on the Galaxy Z Flip 4, so don't expect to get much usage out of it.
The main/internal folding displays on both phones, however, are at par with each other. You are looking at a 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED panel on both phones with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 pixels. The one on the Moto Razr+ supports up to 165Hz refresh rate, whereas the one on the regular Moto Razr tops out at 144Hz. Both panels are protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus, so there are no differences there. We'll have more to talk about the displays and our experience of using them once we spend some time with the devices, so stay tuned.
Moto Razr and Razr+: Hardware and software
The Moto Razr model is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, whereas the Moto Razr+ model comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 inside the Moto Razr is coupled with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, while the Razr+ packs 8GB LPDDR5 memory and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. They both run Android 13 software out of the box and support a host of standard Motorola features, including the fan-favorites like Peek display, fast flashlight, and more.
The regular Moto Razr model packs a 4200mAh battery, whereas the Razr+ model has a slightly smaller 3800mAh unit. Both phones, however, support up to 30W wired and 5W wireless charging, but you'll have to buy a charger separately as neither of them is bundled with one in the box. Both foldables come with a total of three camera sensors — two at the back and one on the internal display. The regular Moto Razr model comes with a 64MP f/1.7 main camera at the back along with a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide/macro camera with a 120-degree field of view (FoV). The Razr+ model sports a 12MP f/1.5 main camera and a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide/macro camera with a 108-degree field of view (FoV).
There's also a 32MP f/2.4 camera sensor on the internal display of both phones, which can be used for selfies and video calls. You can use the main and the ultra-wide cameras on the external display for selfies, too, so the choice is yours. Some other noteworthy features of these two foldables include support for 5G, NFC, eSIM, and more.
Motorola Razr and Razr+: Final thoughts
Motorola is looking to make a splash this year with two new Razr models. We hope the regular Moto Razr will also be available to purchase soon so we have more foldables to explore. It'll be interesting to see how the new Razr phones stack up against Samsung's flip phones in 2023, so stay tuned for our reviews, comparisons, and more.
