Our dams and tailings storage facilities (TSFs)

Vale currently has 114 dams. Some of these dams were designed primarily to contain tailings and are known as tailings storage facilities (TSFs). Other similar structures may also be used to contain sediment or water. For TSFs, we have implemented the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).

¹133 dams and TSFs: does not include containment structures or decharacterized structures.

To comply with Requirement 15.1 of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), Vale provides a collection of 36 PDF documents related to the operation of our tailings storage facilities. These files present organized, up-to-date and detailed information on all of the Company's TSFs where GISTM has already been implemented.

Emergency level

Emergency level is a technical classification established in Brazil under ANM Resolution 95 of 2022, which indicates the severity of anomalies or risks associated with a dam. Emergency levels are classified as 1, 2 or 3, with Level 3 representing the highest level of severity.

In 2019, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the conditions of our structures, which resulted, in 2020, in the identification of 35 dams classified at an emergency level under the criteria established by the resolution. This effort reflected the collective work of dedicated professionals, regulatory authorities, independent experts and technical partners.

Since then, we have made significant progress in risk management. Today, 11 dams remain classified at an emergency level. In 2025, we achieved our goal of having no structures at Emergency Level 3, the most critical classification.

We remain firmly committed to the continuous mitigation of risks associated with our structures.

The dams that remain at emergency levels are continuously monitored and undergo targeted interventions to improve their safety conditions.

These actions include detailed geotechnical investigations and, when necessary, structural reinforcement work or decharacterization processes.

Engineer of Record (EoR) Dashboard

Each month, Engineers of Record summarize the results of their analyses in flash reports, providing a quick, consolidated and informative overview of the performance of the structures.

Below is the dashboard rating assigned to each dam and tailings storage facility.
