Let's Get Social

We had a great time on May 30th with @utahfilmcenter and @audubonrockies. Thank you to everyone who came out to support and watch this eye-opening short film. 💚

Did you miss out on the screening of Shoreline Sentinels of Great Salt Lake? Don’t worry! Keep an eye out for other opportunities across the valley to watch this short film. Check out Utah Film Center’s summer lineup of screenings as well!
We're back with our extra special Members' Nights this summer! These members-only evenings are perfect for the whole family (and are free!). Our first one will be on Wednesday, June 17th, from 5:30pm-7:30pm with our Horticulture team. 🌱💚

Enjoy flower crafts, tours of our blooming gardens, and take home your own native plant. The Bird Feeder Café will be open for refreshments. Don't forget to bring your membership card for check-in! 🪪

Sun’s out, feathers out! Our Victoria Crowned Pigeons were seen enjoying the sun’s rays in Treasures of the Rainforest. ☀️

Sunbathing is a common practice seen in many bird species, where birds lie on the ground (as seen here) or perched, wings spread wide, taking in the sun.

The Audubon Society notes that there are practical reasons for sunning, such as for warmth and dryness, but more and more research now points to another reason: to rid themselves of parasites living on their skin and feathers.

If you see any of our birds on the ground with their wings spread out, they may be sunbathing! Feel free to check in with our Bird Care staff to verify the behavior if you are still unsure.
