Why Lucky People Are Always On the Move — It’s Not Just Luck
Lately, does it ever feel like things just aren’t going your way?
We all have moments like that.
But did you know that people who seem to attract good luck often share something in common?
Today, I’d like to share a phrase that gave me a powerful insight into that very idea.
1. A phrase that hit me like a lightning bolt
It was last year, in an article I was reading without much thought, that I stumbled upon a phrase that hit me hard.
And that phrase was this ──
“Exercise” literally means “moving your luck.”
(In Japanese, the word for “exercise” (運動, undō) is made up of the characters for “luck” (運) and “movement” (動). In other words, to exercise is to move your luck.)
I’ve been exercising consistently for over 20 years, ever since I was 24 — but to be honest, I had never heard this phrase until recently.
Come to think of it, the Japanese word for “exercise” is made up of two kanji: one meaning “luck” (運) and the other “movement” (動). So literally, it’s “moving your luck.”
I was honestly shocked I’d never noticed it before. How could I have missed something so obvious?😵
So when I heard this phrase, I was struck by a powerful “Aha!” moment — it made so much sense to me all at once.
Because it was undoubtedly thanks to “exercise” that I was able to recover from a devastating heartbreak and depression I experienced in my twenties.
(For more details about that time, please see the article linked below.)
2. When your body moves, your energy starts flowing.
Looking back, exercise isn’t just about strengthening the body.
It’s truly about the flow of energy itself.
When you get your body moving, your mindset becomes positive → your actions follow → and you attract more encounters and chances.
In other words, you’re literally “moving your luck.”
Besides, people who are lucky don’t just sit still.
Don’t you get the sense that both their mind and body are always in motion?
In fact, when you move your body:
Your mood becomes more positive
You feel lighter throughout the day
Conversations with others become more enjoyable
You start to notice more happy coincidences
In other words, the “ki” or energy inside you starts to flow.
And as it circulates, it leads to new actions, encounters, and opportunities.
During those darkest days, I was desperately grasping for a way to break free from my circumstances.
However, once I casually started attending the gym, not only did I change, but so did the world around me.
And before I knew it, unexpected encounters and new opportunities started coming my way one after another. 💕
3. You have the power to move your own luck.
If you’re feeling like “things haven’t been going my way lately”
or
“maybe I’m just not lucky,”
don’t worry — you don’t need to do anything special.
Why not start by moving something inside yourself?
It might be:
A morning deep breath
A gentle stretch
A quick walk around your home
Grooving to your favorite tunes
Any little thing will do.
When you move, your luck starts to move, too.✨✨✨
4. And finally — keep your luck in motion today.
What this phrase taught me is that you don’t just wait for luck;
you go after it and set it in motion yourself.
Exercise = “Moving your luck.”
Please tuck this phrase away in a corner of your heart. And whenever you feel your motivation slipping, try to remember it.
May your luck begin to move little by little once again. 🍀
