Learning from Failure—Success Lies Within Failure—
◆Introduction
Previously, I wrote about how "training is a valuable place to experience learning from failure." I have created a follow-up to that.
◆Training is not a place to learn success
If you want correct answers or knowledge, I think you should just ask the internet or AI. In an era where the internet is highly developed, there is no need or time to go out of your way to attend training.
I believe that learning in training lies in the insights gained from the sensations and emotions experienced when failing. Having others in the same space and the feelings felt there deepen the learning. It becomes an opportunity to learn what one should have done in that space. It could be said that it is a place to learn how to handle knowledge within human relationships, rather than just information-based knowledge.
Learning in training is gained through such experiences. For example, group work encourages this experience, and the same goes for group presentations. Knowing the reactions of others to your own statements in a group, and if those reactions differ from your own opinions, various emotions should arise, which should lead to deep learning.
◆It is not a place for successful experiences either
Also, a training session is not a place to gain successful experiences.
In the first place, success is not something pre-established like a correct answer, but something that is created anew according to the situation. Existing correct answers are from the past, and there is no guarantee that they will remain correct in the future. The times are constantly changing, and values are changing as well. To avoid being bound by the past, one must not be fixated on current correct answers. In other words, it is not about knowing the knowledge or techniques right in front of you. While successful experiences can maintain motivation, they might mislead the future.
◆Success lies within failure
The success necessary as a working professional often lurks within failure, and it cannot be found just by searching for correct answers. Realizing this should also be one of the purposes of attending training.
Furthermore, failing in a training setting often leads to finding the correct answer. For example, a failure experience in a group work where one insisted on a strong opinion but failed to sufficiently accept the other party's opinion may lead to realizing the importance of "standing in the other person's shoes" during later feedback, which can then be applied in practical settings in the form of teamwork.
◆Conclusion
Failure experiences in training should lead to such realizations. They will also teach you that many options (answers) exist. Furthermore, through failure in training, you will be able to learn your own way of handling insights and how to work within human relationships.
