[Raised by Toxic Parents x HSP] Changing my catchphrase changed my relationships🌱 What I realized after I stopped saying "I'm sorry"
Good evening, this is Hikari🌙
Today, I'd like to write about a
catchphrase I used to use quite often until recently.
That is the phrase"I'm sorry".
Until recently, I used this phrase
really often.
At work, and in my daily life.
When someone did something for me.
When I thought I might have
caused a little trouble.
When I didn't want to ruin the mood.
I would unconsciously say"I'm sorry".
Before I knew it, it had
become my catchphrase.
Perhaps some of you might
relate to this.

I was never really
the type to stand out.
In school, I might be in a group, but
I'm actually the type who likes being alone.
I always thought that if I had just one best friend at school,
being unaffiliated
would be ideal.
Even at work, if possible,
I'd rather just do my work quietly.
That's why I've always been careful about the atmosphere around me
so that I wouldn't wear myself out
in my relationships.
So I wouldn't cause trouble.
So I wouldn't spoil the mood.
When the atmosphere in the room felt off,
I'd try to fix it before it got worse.
Because of that feeling, I would
just end up saying"I'm sorry".

But, there was something I
realized at one point.
"I'm sorry"When you use it too much as a self-deprecating phrase,
depending on the person,
they might think, "This person is beneath me."
Of course, I think there are more peoplewho don't think that way.
But in my experience,
"This person is fine"
"It's okay to be harsh with this person"
I've felt that kind of vibemany times.
It's not that I'm not hurt.
There's a lot I think, butI just take it on if it means
the overall mood won't get worse.
But for people who are unconsciously
looking for a stress outlet,
that kind of sentiment doesn't work at all.
If that relationship continues,
it gradually becomes the norm,
and the situation just keeps getting worse.
Being called out by a senior.
The beginning of power harassment.Someone who is only harsh to me.
Since realizing that,I decided to try changing my words
just a little bit.
"I'm sorry"
Instead of that, when I want to express gratitude,
"Thank you"
I try to use that.Only when I am truly at fault
"I apologize"
I use that. It's just that, butI feel like the atmosphere of my relationships
has changed.
At the same time,
"I apologize"
I realized there were almost no situationswhere I had to say that.Maybe I wasn't doing as many bad things
as I thought I was.

Even now, I think I'm the type
who is often considerate of those around me.
But maybe I don't need to use words
that put myself down more than necessary.
That said, changing a catchphrase
is quite difficult.
Even if it's just once a day,"I'm sorry"to
"Thank you"I try to change it.
I started with
small things like that.
It's just a slight difference in words, but
sometimes that alone can change the atmosphere with people.
If you ever find yourself
unconsciously putting yourself down, too,
it might be okay to try changing your words
just a little bit🌱
