I found this item and picked it up, so this is just a memo. I will also introduce related footage.

Coltrane performed at this Antibes Jazz Festival (Jazz à Juan, said to be the oldest jazz festival in Europe) in 1965 for two days, July 26th and 27th. I covered the 26th before, where he performed "A Love Supreme," and personally, I like that performance even more than the studio version. I wrote about that below.

The record I obtained this time contains the performance from the 27th, and "Naima" and "Impressions" were already released by BYG, overlapping with what I covered above. Therefore, it should have been organized and covered in the previous blog post, but I would like to sort it out at a later date.

Now, the setlist for this day can be seen above, but it seems "Impressions," which is included as A2 on the record, was performed last. Furthermore, it seems there was a television broadcast of this performance, and although not complete, there is footage on YouTube, including the previous day's "A Love Supreme." I have posted the links below.

"A Love Supreme" 7/26

"Naïma" 7/27

"Ascension"

"Impressions"

As you can see in the footage, the microphone placement was appropriate, and the recording is very good compared to other live performances. The content contains a passionate performance by the so-called "Classic Quartet" (not a term I particularly like) in their final period, and it is highly recommended. I think such a literally unified, passionate performance is unique to a group that has been active as a regular unit for a long time. I have nothing but gratitude to those who came before us for preserving a record of the quartet at almost its final moment with such good sound, and for there being footage as well.

The day after this, on the 28th, the quartet moved to Paris and held a concert at "Salle Pleyel" (Pleyel Hall: I wonder if McCoy played the Pleyel piano?), and that performance was released by BYG and reviewed in the aforementioned session. I think the sound quality is also good.

After the French tour, the quartet performed at the Comblain-la-Tour Jazz Festival in Belgium on August 1st, and footage of that performance remains in its entirety. It is truly a sweat-drenched, passionate performance. The songs also start with the 1-on-1 "Vigil" by Elvin and Coltrane, followed by "Naima" and "My Favorite Things."

In 1965, there was a "Meditations" session in November, which was the last session that Elvin and McCoy participated in. 1965 was a turning point in Coltrane's career, and his activities were very active. Please refer to another blog post where I have summarized that.
