(Table) Weekly Short-Short Note 'As the Master Pleases'

On the way home from school. Every day, we spend idle time at the Benten shrine. The air flowing through the seaside town is warm, and today is relaxed as well.

"Hey! Can you do that? The one where you guess exactly 10 seconds!"

"Huh? I wonder."

"You know, I'm good at this! I'm a master, you see! You should call me the 10-second master. Ahem."

"Alright, alright. Then go ahead and try?"

"Yeah, OK. I shall show you the master's exquisite skill."

With a solemn expression, she closes her eyes and starts the stopwatch on the clock.

A moment of silence. And then,

"...Ten!! Alright, how was it?? Look!! 9.98 seconds!!!"

"That's not exactly on the dot."

"No, no, no, it's difficult, you know! Well then, I'll do it one more time! Watch!"

She closes her eyes again and counts.
Seeing her count with all her might, her brow slightly furrowed, makes my heart flutter. She really is cute.

"...Ten!! Alright! How about that? 10.05 seconds!!? Huh?! That's strange."

"Wow, as expected of a master! Bravo! Master!!"

"Hey! That's annoying! Then, let's switch. You try it!"

"Ehh, come on. I'm not good at this."

I close my eyes while grumbling.

"Alright, here I go? One, two..."

"Smooch."

"Wh-what!? What did you just do?? Hey!"

"Yes, that was 15 seconds! Too baaaad!! It seems I am no match for the master after all. Hahaha!"

Lady Benten watched us with a smile today, just as she always does.

This is the memory of my first kiss.

The spring breeze was warm.
