I Tried Generating AI Band Characters Too
I've created an AI cover band.
I dug up some original songs from about 25 years ago that were never released, used Suno AI to create covers of them, and put together a demo collection.
As I repeatedly generated covers with Suno AI to get closer to a band arrangement, I ended up with a 'Voices' profile that had a band-like feel that I quite liked. So, I re-covered all the songs using that same 'Voices' profile to give them a sense of unity, and it started to feel like a cover band was performing them. It created a strange situation where there is a cover band for a band that isn't even famous and hasn't released any recordings. Well, it's self-produced, but since it's a different band performing than the original, you could say that an exclusive cover band exists.
Trying my hand at image generation AI
Thinking I'd like to continue making listenable recordings with this AI cover band, I decided to give the band a look as well. I used NanoBanana 2 on Gemini, an image generation AI, to create characters.
First, generating a live-action version just by inputting a description of the image ↓
Wow, it's a virtual band that's younger and cooler than the original! I matched the member composition to the original band. It's amazing, they look like they really exist!
There was one member I wanted to change, so I regenerated that person individually and edited/composited them in Photoshop. Since regenerating all six at once sometimes resulted in members with different faces, Photoshop compositing was faster.
I also generated them in a clay-style look for when I want to give them an even more fictional feel.

They look a bit like middle-aged guys, but they're kind of cute and it turned out nice!
Once the characters were done, I decided to try my hand at video, so I tested the video generation AI OiiOii AI. Since I could generate from the character design, I had it reference that, and the color of the jumpsuits changed and more girls were added, resulting in a cool and cute band. I hadn't even thought about adding more girls, but I liked the female members, so I decided to adopt them. I feel like a producer holding an audition. To let the band name coexist with the previous one, I decided to call it "WOOGIE LUNCH" instead of "BOOGIE LUNCH".
I'm thinking of having this band make songs with slightly younger-sounding voices, including unfinished songs and new creations.

There was a song a member of my own band had written lyrics for a long time ago, and even though he asked me to put music to it, I had left it untouched. I had heard his image of the song through his humming, so I kept refining and regenerating it in Suno until it got quite close to that. I think the result is almost exactly as I imagined.

Should I try my hand at video generation AI too?
Next, I'm thinking of trying my hand at video generation AI. OiiOii AI consumes quite a lot of credits, so I'll try to finish things as cheaply as possible using Domo AI and NanoBanana, and for video editing, I'll just use iMovie, which is free on my Mac, to cut and join clips. I'll think about paid services once I'm more used to it!
