Since there is no end to tidying up, I recommend periodic reviews
Introduction
Here, I write about my thoughts and experiences regarding "Saki-Raku Organizing," a form of end-of-life planning designed to make life after 50 easier and more enjoyable.
In addition to organizing and end-of-life planning,
I also share casual thoughts on business after 50,
so please feel free to relax and take your time here.
There is no end to tidying up
Are you familiar with the qualification of Organizing and Storage Advisor?
It is a certification course where you can learn organizing and storage, which are necessary skills for daily life,
and I am a certified instructor for Level 2.
(I hold these sessions about twice a month in Yokohama, so if you are interested, please join!)
Many people start tidying up with a
negative mindsetlike "I have to do this...", but
don't you feel agreat sense of refreshmentafter you finish tidying up?!
It also leads to savings because you stop buying unnecessary things, so
tidying up is actually funafter all.
Because it changes with just a shift in mindset,
I want you to start organizing with the thought, "I'm going to do something fun now!"
I hold my courses with that feeling poured into them.
One of the things I always tell people there is this phrase.
Since life goes on forever, there is no end to tidying up.
When you review periodically...
As you age, what you want to eat and what you want to wear change, right?
It is natural for your belongings to increase along with that.
That is exactly why periodic reviews are so important.
I make sure to review the storage in my house once a year.
It might seem troublesome, but
this has become a very good opportunity to reset my belongings and rethink how I shop.
Even storage you look at all the time,
if you look at it with the perspective of "Is there anything I don't need?"
you will notice various things you usually don't, which is interesting.
I recommend periodic reviews during your favorite season
If possible, it is best to decide on a time and do it periodically once a year.
I do my reviews every March.
The spring sunshine motivates me,
and the sunlight reaching the back of the room inevitably illuminates dust and dirt (lol),
which puts me in the mood to say, "Let's do this!"
It's mysterious.
If you prefer winter, do it during this time when you tend to stay indoors.
If you like the heat, do it in the summer.
It is best to take action during your favorite season!
Keep the method simple so you can continue
Having said that, reviews take time.
So, I use a very simple method.
Discard five things that are clearly unnecessary from one location per day
is the method.
See, it's very simple, right!
However, there is a way to do it...
It seems like it will be a long story,
so I will continue this next time.
Yes, in my previous article, I talked about the comfort of empty space during a tea ceremony experience.
The tea ceremony itself was a full-on mental workout with no space for anything else! Haha.
I watched the master's tea preparation very closely,
and while I am well aware that it is not a world you can imitate after seeing it just once or twice,
I had a valuable experience while giving it my full mental focus,
and I learned just how profound it is.
However, perhaps because I used parts of my brain that I don't usually use in daily life,
I felt very relaxed afterward.
It was the feeling of a pleasant empty space being created in my mind!I was also soothed by the setting of the room and the empty space within it;
a space with nothing placed in it felt very comfortable.
Everything has meaning and is part of a well-thought-out 'setting,' but
the fact that it makes you feel that empty space and transports you to an extraordinary place
might just be the skill of a host who is good at hospitality.
Tidying up is the same;
while you are in the middle of tidying, it takes physical effort,
and it is also very mentally exhausting as you use your brain to its full capacity.
But the sense of refreshment afterward, and the
empty space in the roomcreated by tidying up,will surely soothe you!!
Tidying up is also a deep and fun world.
See you next time for the continuation.
I hope everyone has a healthy and fun day today too!
