With an iced black coffee in one hand, I look up at the night sky for a moment. It's Tanabata today, isn't it? The dry sound of ice clinking in the glass stands out strangely in this silence.

Under the starry sky I look up at, there are still people suffering from hunger and disease, people trapped in endless worries, and people trembling on battlefields side-by-side with death.

For all those surviving extreme times in such harsh places, I cannot help but make a wish.

Just for tonight, I want them to loosen their taut strings and have soft kindness reach their hearts. I wish that a night wrapped in warm peace, where everyone is freed from loneliness and can take a deep, relaxed breath, visits everyone, everywhere on Earth, equally.

I can hear a cold voice saying, 'What will change just by wishing?' But even so, I intend to keep praying tonight while I finish this bitter coffee.
