[Short Short] Peek-a-Boo Burger

Within the circular field of view, countless stars were scattered.

Tom searched for Betelgeuse floating in the southern sky. A star said to be ready to explode at any moment. If he could observe that, it would be the ultimate reward for an amateur astronomer.

Something darted across the circular view. It was only for an instant, but it looked like something Tom knew well.

"No, no, that's ridiculous. Just because I like them so much," he muttered to himself, taking a bite of the double cheeseburger in his right hand. He peered back into the telescope. A hamburger was floating in the starry sky. As it gradually increased in size, it dyed the telescope's view the color of a bun.

He took his eye away from the telescope and stood there, stunned. The double cheeseburger fell from his right hand to the ground.

The giant hamburger stopped above Tom's head and landed quietly. The space between the bun and the patty opened, and an alien with arms and legs growing out of a green pickle emerged.

It thrust something like a fork at Tom and said, in unmistakable Earth language, "I want you to eat me deliciously."

With his mouth hanging open, Tom staggered toward it. Suddenly, his vision turned bright white, and Tom had become a patty.

"I want you to eat me deliciously" meant "Don't move and put your hands up" in their language.

Tom, now a patty, was sandwiched between the giant bun and the patty. The alien boarded the hamburger, and it rose back into the night sky.

In his fading consciousness, Tom wished, "Ending my life as a double cheeseburger isn't so bad. I hope I'm eaten deliciously." As if in response, Betelgeuse twinkled brightly.
