Why a bowl of miso soup creates 'tomorrow's swing' more than 100 practice swings
6:00 AM, the sound of a bag echoing in the misty parking lot
The rustle of a convenience store bag in the quiet golf course parking lot.
I hurriedly shove a cold rice ball into my mouth and wash it down with tea to finish my preparations.
“I have to get to the practice green quickly.”
We start our day with that kind of anxiety.
My heart is beating a little fast, and my fingertips feel strangely cold.
The pristine first-hole tee ground.
Even though the scenery is so vast, my body feels tight and won't move the way I want it to.
Haven't you had that experience too?
The frustration and impatience everyone carries
When we hit a bad shot, we tend to blame ourselves,
saying, “My technique is bad.”
But perhaps the real reason isn't just technique.
Maybe your mind is restless, or your body's preparation hasn't caught up yet.
On days when you can't swing the way you want, such small factors can have an impact.
Please don't blame yourself for spinning your wheels.
I want you to first embrace yourself gently, thinking, “I'm just trying that hard today.”
Standing on a golf course without enough preparation
I myself feel restless before an important day,
and I have lost steam in the second half many times because I had a haphazard breakfast.
On those days, my left knee would drift from about the last three holes,
I couldn't catch the ball firmly at impact,
and I think I often ruined my score.
The cause wasn't so much a breakdown in my swing as it was just a lack of energy.
I didn't even have the mental space to realize I was hungry.
The solution is actually very simple.
A bottle of water in my bag, a small pack of salt, and a banana.
I was taught that improvement isn't made of swing theory alone.
Things to prepare before the swing
Why don't you change your way of thinking just once here?
On days when we aren't playing well, we immediately
doubt our technique, wondering if it's the grip, the rhythm, or the weight transfer.
Of course, that is also important.
But there are days when we overlook things that come even before that.
Sleep.
Breathing.
And, meals.
The legs that hold their ground for the next shot, and the arms that swing through to the end,
are ultimately things that your body today will do for you.
Before golf is a sport of technique,
it is an incredibly honest sport where your mind and body are revealed exactly as they are.
What today's words teach us
Each and every meal supports my life
When I saw these words, I immediately thought of golf.
Even just a single bowl of miso soup or a single bite of rice,
it is what makes me who I am today.
When you think of it that way, breakfast is no longer
something you just 'put in' for the sake of it.
It is what supports today's swing.
It is what protects today's focus.
It is what nurtures today's peace of mind.
When the food that nourishes your life is in order, your body is in order.
When your body is in order, your breathing is in order.
When your breathing is in order, your swing becomes a little easier.
There are days when a meal at the golf course tastes strangely delicious, aren't there?
That is probably your body saying 'thank you' properly.
A small preparation you can do in 3 seconds
On the morning of your next round, before you put food into your mouth,
try taking a deep breath for just 3 seconds.
'This meal will support me today'
It is fine to just whisper that in your heart.
Bread, a rice ball, or miso soup is fine.
Don't rush, take one bite slowly.
Just by doing that,
mealtime becomes more than just refueling.
Golf preparation begins before you even swing the club, doesn't it?
Let's meet on the green grass again
Even if your score is bad, or you swing and miss.
The fact that you tried to stand on the golf course today is wonderful in itself.
Tomorrow's golf will surely be a little lighter on your heart than today's.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
Little by little, one step at a time.
Eat something delicious, and get a good night's sleep.
Let's go out again to that place where the pleasant breeze blows. ⛳️
Just one last thing
In your golf life so far, what is the golf meal that you felt was
the most 'truly delicious'?
Or, is there something you
'simply cannot do without' for breakfast?
Please share your casual morning scene in the comments.
