A Journey Through World Literature (6): Breakfast at Tiffany's - The Original Novel and the Film
The famous film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is one of my personal favorites. Combined with the charm of the classic song "Moon River," I find myself enchanted every time I watch it.
Recently, while reading books related to translation, I learned that the original novel has a quite different atmosphere from the film. I thought I absolutely had to read it, and when I actually did...
It was certainly true.
While the film follows the general story of the original, I discovered that the ending is different. The characters and the overall mood seem to have been significantly adapted as well.
The story in the novel has a certain urban glamour, yet I also feel a sense of detachment and a consistent quietness throughout.
Capote's sharp, dignified writing style is truly wonderful. Between the overall atmosphere and the details like his metaphors, how is it all so stylish?
I'm not quite sure...
In the end, I love both the original novel and the film as works of art in their own right. (Though I prefer the ending of the novel.)
For those who have only seen the film like I had, I think you will find a different kind of charm in the original novel. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it!
