2008, Makoto Ozone's radio show 'OZ MEETS JAZZ', and Timescape
During our drive to Wakayama the other day, my wife suddenly said, 'Come to think of it...'
'We used to submit to Makoto Ozone's radio show, didn't we?'
Now that she mentioned it, that did happen.
After getting home, I dug through my HDD and... there it was! I found it.
The radio recording from May 31, 2008.
I'm glad I didn't delete it.
When we were newlyweds, we often listened to jazz pianist Makoto Ozone's radio show, 'ASAHI BEER OZ MEETS JAZZ'.
On this radio show, there was a segment where Makoto Ozone would occasionally play listener requests on the keyboard right on the spot.
My wife suggested, 'Let's try applying,' so she applied under the name Timescape.
The requested song was 'WAVE' by Antonio Carlos Jobim.
After applying, every time we listened to the weekly broadcast, we would be nervous, thinking, 'Ah, it wasn't this week. Maybe next week? Did we not get picked?'
And then, the broadcast on May 31, 2008.
Below is a one-minute digest of that broadcast that I edited and uploaded to YouTube.
Back then, I used a cassette tape to record the radio, so the sound quality is a bit poor.
And this is how Makoto Ozone called out the name.
'Let's go with one more person. A woman, 'Timescape'-san.'
(So embarrassing!)
In the talk segment, the story my wife wrote about how she started listening to jazz and episodes related to our marriage were read aloud.
Since the content is super embarrassing, I'll omit it here, but listening to it after all this time gave me a strange feeling of being both embarrassed and nostalgic.
We continued to listen to Makoto Ozone's radio show after that, and we also bought his new albums.
My wife told me she had been to his concerts several times even before she met me.
As it turns out, I still haven't been to a Makoto Ozone concert, so maybe I'll go next time he comes to Billboard Live Osaka?

If you listen to this broadcast, you'll understand.
The name 'Timescape' that I use on note.
I never imagined that a radio recording from 18 years ago would serve as supporting evidence for my current self-introduction article.
Having written nearly 280 articles, it might be a bit late to say this.
I have been appearing under my old name for 18 years.

I couldn't find the version of WAVE played by Makoto Ozone, but please enjoy Oscar Peterson's WAVE.
※The header photo is a program compilation CD that belongs to my wife. The J-WAVE weather forecast BGM by Makoto Ozone included here is cool.
