What I value in 'crucial' conversations
I shared the mind map I drew after my Instagram Live
with a few of my friends.
I did it casually, saying, 'Look, this is how I drew it.'
But as I was talking, I suddenly realized something.
Oh, I realized that
I try not to have too many 'expectations' when I'm in a conversation.
When you talk to someone,
don't you sometimes find yourself approaching the conversation with expectations,
like 'maybe I'll hear something great from them'
or 'I have to say something useful'?
When you have that 'preconception,'
it's surprisingly difficult to fully enjoy the present moment.
So,
there is only one thing I always decide before I start talking.
'I will make this the best time possible for me.'
That's it.
Once I set that in my mind,
I naturally start thinking,
'What can I do to make this the best time?'
Once I do that, the rest is basically on 'autopilot' (*´ω`*)
I become able to just enjoy the other person's reactions,
the rhythm of the words, and the atmosphere of the moment.
When I'm genuinely enjoying myself like that,
I feel like the other person can be their natural self, too.
I believe that even without forcing yourself to find the right words,
or forcing yourself to say something 'good,'
there are moments when you can truly connect just as you are.
When you talk to someone,
what kind of mindset do you bring to that time?
It's important to have 'things you want to convey,' but
gently asking yourself 'what kind of time do I want this to be?'
might lead to unexpected new discoveries. ◎
