Yokan Family 'Short-Short' Diary 10 - Ah! The Eccentric -
📝 'Out-of-the-box' Naming
(At my parents' house with my father)
Me: 'Come to think of it, I heard Uncle G used to keep a crow, right?'
Dad: 'Yeah, he did. He was quite fond of it.'
Me: 'That's rare. Since he kept it, did he give it a name or something?'
Dad: 'He did.'
Me: 'Since it's a crow, maybe something like "Karasuke"?'
Dad: 'No.'
Me: 'Then what was its name?'
Dad: 'He called it "Hey, Crow!", so I guess its name was just "Crow"'
Me: 'What! Uncle named a crow "Crow"? 😆'
Dad: 'Well, it's pretty normal, or rather, a name with no twist at all.'
Me: 'No, no. That's not "out-of-the-box" naming, that's definitely not normal!'
Dad: 'Is that so? Since it's a crow, I don't feel like "Crow" is that strange.'
Me: 'Wait a minute, Dad. Just think about it. Would you name a dog "Dog"? Would you name a cat "Cat"? When I, your cute son right here, was born, was "Human" ever an option among the names you considered? That's what I'm talking about.'
Dad: 'That never happened (laughs).'
Me: 'Exactly! Furthermore, if I tried to name your cute grandchildren "Human" when they were born, what would you think about that?'
Dad: 'You say funny things. I would certainly oppose that.'
Me: 'It's not funny at all!'
(I am labeled an 'eccentric' by many people around me. No doubt about it! This trait is inherited from my father's side. Lately, I think there's a high possibility that this bloodline has been passed down to my second son. The bloodline is terrifying! I pray that my second son doesn't name his own child "Human" 🙏)

📝Oh! The Minority
(Coming home and speaking to my sons who are watching YouTube in the living room)
Me: 'Hey guys. Could you please let your dad, who has been working hard, have a turn on YouTube?'
Sons: 'No way.'
Mom: 'Kids. Your dad has been working hard too, so why don't you let him watch?'
Sons: 'Hmm... 😔'
Me: 'Exactly. I'm tired, and watching videos of "people playing games" is completely boring, so I don't want to watch that anyway. Please, let me have a turn.'
Second son: 'Still no. You're just going to watch draft videos anyway, right, Dad?'
Me: 'Yeah.'
Eldest son: 'We also think videos of "people playing draft games" are completely boring, and we don't want to watch them either.'
Me: 'No, no, you guys aren't being very cute. Are you just going to talk back to everything I say?'
Mom: 'You're being childish too, Dad. Honestly, even I don't find videos of "people playing draft games" interesting. And the way you spoke to the kids just now was wrong, wasn't it?'
Me: 'Yes. 😅'
Mom: 'Kids. Your dad has much less time left in his life than you do, so let him watch later.'
Sons: 'Okay.'
Me: 'Mom... the way you put that... 😭'
(My sons got the better of me this time. It's true that, generally speaking, videos of "people playing draft games" are overwhelmingly more of a "minority" than videos of "people playing games." But I'm secretly hoping. That one day, at least one of you will enjoy watching videos of "people playing draft games" with me. 🎵)
