FIRE Dual-Base Life | Seaside Living Where the Five Senses Return
Recently, I started living a dual-base life. It is a distance of about
one hour by train and bus from my home.
For now,
I am going back and forth at a pace of 60% at my home and 40% at my base.
My base home is in a place that
I probably wouldn't have chosen when I was a company employee,
a little bit away from the center of Tokyo, but
a very convenient place to live.
On the other hand, the base
is in a slightly inconvenient location.
However,
there is the sea and there are mountains,
and it is a land that
seems somewhat suitable for life after retirement.
Even though I only traveled for an hour,
when I get off at the station nearest to the base,
the air changes completely.
It is refreshing and warm,
and there is a soft scent of the sea.
Even though it should be under the same sky,
the sky I look up at,
I feel like this blue is clearer.
When I actually observed the temperature,
I understood the characteristics of the seaside climate well.
The minimum temperature is warmer than around my home,
but the maximum temperature on a summer day,
was exactly about 2 degrees lower.
Just by being near the sea,
it seems the atmosphere changes this much.
And for some reason I don't know,
there are few tired faces in town.
Is it perhaps because there are many tourists?
The speed of the people passing by,
is a little slower and gentler.
Every day with the sea and sunset nearby.
My head feels a little clearer.
Taking a deep breath is enjoyable
When I go to the seaside,
my five senses return a little.
And when I return home,
I switch back to my regular daily routine.
Dual-base living,
For some reason, I dreamed of it
with the assumption of having a base overseas.
But having two bases nearby,
just an hour away by train, is actually quite nice.
If I feel like it, I can come right away.
FIRE life,
creating changes in my life myself.
I think I'll try living with this rhythm for a while.
I've written other FIRE articles too
