Shabby Balcony Vegetable Garden | Water Spinach Germination and Adding a Shabby Irrigation Device
I sowed water spinach seeds that I bought on Mercari three years ago, and they sprouted in about five days. This is a story about that, and the process of making an irrigation device for my okra.
Three-year-old seeds sown in an egg carton
I sowed the 9 remaining seeds, thinking that if 3 sprouted I'd move them to a planter, and if 5 or more sprouted I'd use plastic bottles for the rest. After sowing them in an egg carton, they looked like this after about 5 days.

It looks like they'll need to be transplanted in no time, so I started preparing a planter in a hurry, but for now, I've decided to have the first ones that sprouted go into plastic bottles.

By the way, last year I sowed the seeds around mid-July and was able to harvest them about 5 times until around September. Since I sowed them early this year and they seem like they'll grow well, I hope I can harvest a bit more. If you stir-fry them with garlic soy sauce, they're crunchy and delicious, so they'll be a great summer ingredient from now on.

Adding a premium irrigation device
While I was at it preparing soil for the water spinach plastic bottles—if you can call it that—I made an additional irrigation device using the top part of a cut plastic bottle. I'm using it like this.
It's very shabby... no, this premium irrigation device is set as a pair in the eggplant and bell pepper planters, and since I couldn't find a pipe with holes for the okra, I only had one, so I'm going to add this one to it.

I'll stick the irrigation device into the okra planter, and I plan to put soil into the cut-off plastic bottle body and plant the water spinach in that.
Thank you for reading until the end.
