Kawagoe Egawa: Inspecting Flood Control Construction

On May 17, at the invitation of the Motofukuoka Neighborhood Association in Fujimino City, I inspected the construction site of the Kawasaki Retarding Basin, which draws water from the Kawagoe Egawa River.

Water from the Kawagoe Egawa flows into the Shingashi River, but rising water levels in the Shingashi River have caused inland flooding, resulting in above-floor flooding damage in the Motofukuoka area and the Terao area of Kawagoe City on the opposite bank (in 2017 and 2019).
As a flood control measure, a retarding basin with a storage capacity of 38,000 cubic meters to hold water from the Kawagoe Egawa is being built in cooperation with Kawagoe City, supported by national subsidies. Construction is scheduled to be completed in March 2026.
With the completion of this retarding basin, we will be able to prepare for increases in the water volume of the Kawagoe Egawa, but I intend to continue working on flood control measures.
