I Tried Failing a Lot This Year!
I'm not actually breaking into a "cold sweat" like in the thumbnail, but
I sure failed at a lot of things this year! (lol)
Like when I bought shoes online for the first time and the size was wrong,
or when I accepted an overseas business trip without a second thought despite being bad at English, only to end up getting scolded at a restaurant in Germany (apparently I wasn't lining up correctly...),
or when I asked a female colleague I was interested in out to dinner and she turned me down saying, "I'd still feel too nervous being just the two of us" 🤣
I definitely had my share of failures.
But,there's a part of me that feels proud of them.
I've always been the type to "overthink things to avoid failure and end up doing nothing."
I was the type to tap on the stone bridge to check it, only to decide not to cross it after all.
However, I've always wanted to change that about myself.
The opposite of success isn't failure; it's not trying at all—
Rather than a life spent overthinking and doing nothing,
I want to choose a life where I boldly take on various challenges and "experience many things."
Instead of a stable, low-altitude flight fearing failure,
I want an exciting flight with ups and downs, but a higher average altitude.
I'm sure I'll regret the things I didn't do for the rest of my life,
but the failures I experienced will eventually become funny stories.
As long as I have the boldness to laugh off my failures, that's all that matters.
With that mindset, I intentionally (somewhat) sealed away my overthinking this year.
I tried challenging myself with all sorts of things.
As a result, life is definitely more fun when you take on challenges!!
The failures that resulted are part of the list at the beginning,
but I see this list not as "scars," but as "medals" earned from my challenges.
That said, I'm still a first-year student when it comes to having a challenge-oriented mindset.
Naturally, I also have bitter experiences where I "couldn't quite follow through with the challenge."
But, I want to keep this momentum going, try many new things next year, and spend my days feeling excited!
Failures caused by simple lack of preparation or inconveniencing others are not good, but
any other failures are welcome! (Though my voice is still shaking a little 🫣)
