My brother with the seat-finding luck, and me with the traffic-trouble luck
My brother seems to know when people on the train are going to get off.
While on the train
he often says, "That person is going to get off soon, so let's stand in front of them."
He's usually right.
The person often gets off at the next station or a few stops later.
And then he gives that seat to me.
He's a kind brother.
"How do you know?!"
I asked him.
"How do you not know? Seriously!"
he replied, sounding annoyed.
His answer wasn't very kind.
So I honestly thought to myself,
I see, so normal people can tell who is likely to get off.
Since then, I've decided to observe the passengers on the train as hard as I can.
Someone sleeping with their arms crossed.
This person won't be getting off for a while.
Someone holding a large bag and looking around.
This person is a tourist, so they might be on for quite a while.
Someone who looks like they are about to take off their earphones.
Oh, maybe they'll get off at the next stop?
And so on.
Sometimes I would guess right, but most of the time I was wrong.
It seems I lack the power of observation.
One day, I went out with my brother again.
When the train pulled into the platform, my brother said, "Let's get in from that entrance," and we moved.
"Because I have a feeling the people in that car will get off soon."
Can he really sense things like that even before we can see the people inside the train?
And sure enough, the person my brother had his eye on got off at the next station.
"How do you know?!"
I asked him more insistently than before.
"I just kind of know."
That was his reply.
It seems the power of observation had nothing to do with it.
Since I don't understand the logic, I can't imitate him even if I trained.
I got angry and felt like I lost out.
By the way, my brother is also good at drawing lots.
They say that winning lottery tickets look bigger or even glow.
I never win the lottery, but there is something I hit quite often.
Traffic troubles.
I really do hit flight cancellations quite often.
In winter, one out of every two or three flights is delayed or cancelled.
I've gotten so used to it that I now travel the day before my scheduled plans.
Once, I went to a theme park far away with my younger brother.
While we were enjoying ourselves, a cancellation notice arrived from the airline.
Since there was no other choice, I decided to ask to stay at my brother's place and headed home by highway bus.
Then, this time, due to an accident in a tunnel, we were trapped on the bus for several hours.
My brother was quietly angry.
He probably thinks it's my fault.
He did let me stay over that day.
But.
For several years after that, he refused to meet up anywhere far away.
