Whether you realize that "Wait, I'm the one holding the AI back"
Recently, in my new initiatives, I've had a series of situations that were trivial but subtly unsuccessful.
It's not fatal. It's just a state where something feels like it's not quite clicking.
At first, I leaned toward common reasons like:
・Maybe it's an issue with the AI's accuracy
・Maybe the tools aren't mature enough yet
However, as I broke down the factors one by one, I arrived at a slightly uncomfortable conclusion.
Wait, I'm the one holding the AI back.
What was happening
Looking back, I was over-preparing the information I gave to the AI before handing it over.
For example, meeting notes with key industry figures.
Even though I had the full transcript, I was unconsciously doing the following:
・Extracting what seemed like important statements
・Cutting out parts I judged to be tangents
・Passing only the points I had structured myself to the AI
At first glance, this seems rational, and it even looks like the behavior of a "
capable business person".But now I understand clearly.
That was the problem
.
Why did I do that?
The reason is simple, and a bit painful.
I have systematically studied management and IT, and have trained myself to organize issues using logic.
・I can identify important points myself
・It's more efficient to remove noise
・It's easier for the AI to understand if I structure it before passing it on
I believed this without question.
However, it also meant that
I was arbitrarily thinning out the materials the AI needed to think.
AI is "smart, but lacks reality"
In an instant, my perspective flipped.
AI is far smarter than I am. On the other hand, it cannot attend meetings in the real world or sense the atmosphere.
Therefore, the premise should have been a reciprocal structure:
・I act in the real world
・I pass raw information, unorganized facts, and even my sense of discomfort to the AI
・The AI interprets, structures, and returns insights
・I take that and act again
Despite this, I was preemptively stealing the AI's work and failing to fulfill the role that only a human can play.
The words that came to mind at that moment were,
"Wait? I'm holding the AI back".
The human role of "providing direction to AI"
There is one thing I strongly realized here.
The human role is not to think about details or to structure everything.
・What are we aiming for?
・What do we consider good, and what do we not?
・What kind of world do we want to realize?
It is to provide this kind of direction.
And the source of that direction is values and purpose, not knowledge or logic.
This connects cleanly with the themes I have written about in my articles so far. What becomes important in the AI era is not the skills themselves, but "what kind of judgment criteria you live by."
A trap that those who have worked hard are prone to fall into
It is ironic, but I feel this is a trap that those who have worked hard are prone to fall into.
・Can think for themselves
・Can structure things
・Can organize issues
These are undoubtedly strengths.
However, when working with AI, it can backfire as a "habit of doing everything yourself."
Using AI does not mean following AI, nor does it mean dumping everything on AI.
It means creating an environment where AI can think to its maximum potential, while humans focus on "direction" and "action."
Things I decided to change going forward
Since gaining this realization, I have decided on one thing.
When starting a chat with AI from scratch, I now always ask this:
"This is what I want to do, but is there any information you would like to know in order to think about it?"
I don't provide "seemingly correct premises" from the start.
I don't pass over-organized information. I let the AI define the materials it needs.
As a result, the quality of the output has clearly improved.
The true meaning of introducing AI
Introducing AI is not about increasing tools or reducing work.
I believe it is reshaping your own thinking and role

I will continue to update my own behavior so as not to hold the AI back.
Don't try too hard to be smart.
Don't over-organize.Pass raw information obtained from reality as it is.
I feel that this way, both AI and humans can become much stronger.
