The Charm of the Unfinished

Hello, thank you for your hard work today. This is Rinne Yuki.

Lately, my creative work has hit a wall. Or rather, I should say I've intentionally let it hit a wall.
I'm the type of person who basically relies on spontaneous bursts of energy to create, so my creative cycle tends to be irregular to begin with.
Even so, I haven't been able to write much lately.

So, I had an idea. Why not just post the novels I've started writing?
I understand.
Is that even allowed? That's what you want to say, isn't it?
But really, who decided that a novel must be finished?
Perhaps there is someone who truly decided that.
Besides, what exactly is the completion of a novel? What kind of state does that refer to?
If I, the author, feel it's okay to publish even if it's unfinished, then that should be fine, surely.

Let me talk a little about how I write my novels.
Basically, my writing begins when I come up with an opening that I find very exciting. In any case, the opening is everything. If I can't get into it here, I can't move forward. And I don't decide anything other than this opening. Not the setting, the characters, or the theme. Even I, the author, have no idea what kind of story this will become.
Because I write this way, I hit a wall quite early on. The energy that was high at the opening settles down. Once that happens, I have no choice but to create new excitement and move the story forward. Every time it gets boring to write, I repeat a radical change in direction. If this goes well, the novel will keep progressing.
However, being the slacker that I am, I tend to give up on writing the moment I hit a wall. This is bad.
I should start working on it again without leaving too much time, but I slack off quite a bit.
What happens when I slack off quite a bit?
The story breathes its last.
It reaches its expiration date.
It is quite difficult to breathe life back into the story from here.

I have many stories that have been involuntarily closed in that way.

I have decided to take the plunge and share them with you all.

I don't know if you will enjoy them, though.

Besides, there is a charm to unfinished stories as well.
I thought about this when I read Kafka's fragments the other day.
Also, when I read novels, I am often more strongly attracted to fragments than the overall structure, so I personally feel that unfinished novels have quite a lot of potential.

With that said, please go ahead and read them here.
