Everyone has moments when they want to reset their relationships
The moment you think, "I want to reset my relationships,"
is not when something definitive has happened.
It's not that you had a big fight.
You weren't betrayed.
You didn't come to dislike the other person.
It's just that
you feel a bit burdened,
it takes time to reply,
or you feel lingering fatigue.
After a persistent, hard-to-explain sense of discomfort,
people suddenly think, "I wish I could just reset everything."
When you start feeling tired of the other person
The moment a message arrives,
your chest feels a little heavy.
It's not that you dislike the content.
It's not that the other person is bad.
It's just that dealing with them has become a chore.
Even so,
the feeling of "it's a hassle to think about this"
is appearing more frequently than before.
When interactions that used to be natural
start to feel like an obligation before you know it,
people want to re-evaluate their relationships.
That isn't coldness,
but rather a very realistic sign
that your emotional capacity is running low.
When only self-loathing remains after meeting up
It's not that it wasn't fun.
The atmosphere, the conversation, everything seemed fine on the surface.
And yet, on the way home,
"I forced myself to go along with it,"
"I couldn't say what I wanted to say,"
"I feel kind of exhausted,"
"That wasn't fun,"
"Maybe I'll pass next time,"
those kinds of thoughts come to mind.
More than the relationship itself,
when you start to dislike yourself for being with that person,
the desire to reset becomes stronger.
When it's just too exhausting to explain the gap in values
At first, you explained carefully,
putting your own thoughts and feelings into words.
But after missing each other so many times,
"They won't understand anyway,"
"It's too tiring to explain,"
"Whatever, I don't care anymore,"
your heart starts to give up.
The reason you want to let go at this stage is
more than the other person,
it is likely that you want to stop playing the role of someone who keeps trying to understand each other.
When you want to distance yourself before you start to hate someone
It is not that you have come to hate them.
In fact, you do not want to hate them.
If you stay any closer,
you feel like you might end up blaming them,
and you will become a person you do not like.
At times like that,
the word "reset" comes to mind.
It is not to destroy the relationship,
but simply chosen as a distance to ensure you do not hurt each other any further...
What you want to reset is not the person, but the "self that has been pushing too hard"
When you feel like you want to reset your relationships,
what you really want to end
is often not the connection with the other person itself.
The self that tries to be a good person
The self that stays silent to avoid being disliked
The self that keeps trying hard to be understood
You have simply reached your limit
with continuing those things.
Relationships are not a binary choice between cutting them off or continuing them
Reset = completely severing ties
You do not have to think of it that way.
Reduce the frequency of meeting
Stop having deep conversations
Let go of expectations
Sometimes, just by changing the distance a little bit,
the relationship can continue
while you feel more at ease,
so it is worth doing.
From now on, I will think about "how I am" rather than "who I am with."
The moment you want to reset your relationships
is something everyone experiences, but I think the difference lies in
how you feel and perceive it.
It is not proof that you have become weak.
It means that
if you push yourself any further,
your emotions will break,
and you are properly sensing that.
Not denying the feeling of wanting to reset
and looking at the reason for it
is not an act of destroying relationships.
It is a very quiet decision
to continue interacting with people
while protecting yourself.
You could even call it a natural phenomenon of the heart.
