There is no ulterior motive behind my likes and follows: The dilemma of a private practice psychologist using social media
Something I found myself tweeting on Twitter one day.
心理職のTwitterの使い方って本当に難しい。

何かの話題で誰かに話しかけたり、TLのツイートに「いいね」を押すの一つ、気を遣う。私のように私設相談室を持っていると暗なる利益誘導にもなりかねない。

The full scope of the dilemma, connecting all the threads that followed, is below.
Using Twitter as a mental health professional is truly difficult. Even just talking to someone about a topic or 'liking' a tweet on my timeline requires careful consideration.
Since I run a private counseling office like I do, it could be seen as an indirect form of solicitation.
In truth, I have a strong desire to connect more with kindergarten and nursery school teachers, as well as parents who are struggling with their children's development, but for the same reason, I hesitate even to follow them.As a result, I end up only connecting with psychology-related, animal-themed, or entertainment accounts.
The same goes for promoting books.
Rather than for my own profit, my stronger desire is for people to widely know about the existence of mental health professionals who focus on supporting caregivers in early childhood education settings through my publications, and that introducing a counselor can also help kindergartens improve their workplace environment and management.I feel this way even more strongly.
If the value of Kinder Counselors (KC) is recognized, spreads, and more kindergartens introduce them, it will ultimately contribute to resolving the 'low pay, long hours' problem for mental health professionals nationwide. The reason I specifically mentioned in my book that the 5,000 yen hourly rate for School Counselors (SC) is applied as-is to KCs in the Kansai region is because I hope to connect it to that goal.Psychologists interested in supporting preschool children, or SCs who want to work concurrently as kindergarten counselors, why don't we connect and think about this together?
Wait, that ends up being a call to other mental health professionals after all. Someone, please tell me how to escape this cycle...
Actually, I have the same dilemma on note.
I sincerely wish to convey the importance of supporting preschool children, to connect with other mental health professionals and experts in other fields who share the same thoughts, to connect with kindergarten and nursery school teachers, and to connect with parents.
But it's sad to think I might be viewed with suspicion, as if my 'likes' are for business purposes (profit for my private practice), so I can't just press them easily.
For the same reason, I don't follow people on my own.
(I am very grateful for and can confidently return follows and likes.)
Let alone sending support, it's not something I can do casually.
The reason I post on note and Twitter is because I want many people to know that,
besides public health nurses, kindergarten and nursery school teachers, and pediatricians, there are other experts you can consult about child development. And that,
among psychologists, there are those who specialize in early childhood development! However, I also believe it is necessary to let people know that they can consult with experts in private practice like me.
And since my ultimate goal is for all infants and toddlers nationwide to grow upmorehappily andmorefreely, I have also written articles aboutthe circumstances of free child-rearing consultations held by local governments and how to use them effectively, and articles thatcan lower the hurdles for parents who are thinking of using them.I also introducehow to find a counselorwho can provide consultations not only on child-rearing but also on the parents' own mental health. I intend to continue this policy in the future.
My conflict that note and Twitter are not for business purposes, yet cannot be completely separated from it, is unlikely to disappear, butas my own measure and expression of intent, I have decided to write about articles and my counseling office separately as much as possible. When I mention the counseling office within an article,I will add a '〇 Advertisement 〇' mark.(hoping that those who don't want to read it can skip it). From now on, I will review and revise past articles as well.
And, please let memake a declaration here!
There is no ulterior motive, such as business purposes, behind the 'likes,' 'follows,' or 'support' I give. I would be grateful if you could accept them as pure empathy for your articles, gratitude for teaching me things I didn't know, and a feeling of support for you as a creator.
↑ I want to make this statement a pinned post eventually, but for a while, I will likely keep the introduction article for my new book at the top. Please forgive me. (Wait, isn't that an advertisement after all!)
