3-Year-Old Parenting | Rehabilitation Record 0508 for My Eldest Son with Bilateral Lower Limb Paresis

Hello.
I'm Natsu, a nurse and mother of two.
I use AI to create things that make life easier or a little more exciting.

In this note, I write freely about the things I've made, my trials and errors in daily life, and the things I love.

This time, it's about Akkun's rehabilitation.

Click here for more about Akkun.

It took me a while to put this together.

There might not be many people in the exact same situation, but
I hope this is helpful for parents whose children are about to start rehabilitation.

Occupational Therapy

In recent rehabilitation sessions, we've been practicing things that lead to drawing.
We connect dots to draw triangles and squares, trace lines using stencils, and
try drawing shapes by looking at them.

It's not just about scribbling freely, but
practicing moving his hands while thinking, 'draw a line from here to here,' 'connect this dot to that dot,' or
'what does this shape look like?'

Akkun was very focused.

When connecting dots, he watched where the line was going and
moved his hand slowly.

Triangles and squares might seem like simple shapes to adults, but
for a child, they are shapes with corners, changing line directions,
and a beginning and an end.

I think he's not just drawing lines, but looking at the shape, considering the position,
and imagining where to go next as he draws.

We also used stencils for drawing.

Tracing lines along a stencil feels different than drawing with just his own hand.
By tracing the outside of the shape or drawing along the inside,
he seemed to be learning with his body that 'doing this creates this shape.'

We also placed square magnet-like shapes on paper
and tried tracing around them.

Place the magnet, draw the line, and think about what shape it will become.
Look at the finished shape and confirm, 'it turned out like this.'
I believe each of those moments is becoming a real experience for Akkun.

Watching him, it seemed like he wasn't just moving his hands, but thinking, 'what kind of shape will this be?'

Imagining the shape.
Thinking about the direction to draw the line.
Focusing until the end.

I think all of these are important exercises for Akkun right now.

Since we started doing this in rehab, he's been able to draw on paper too.

I think that's amazing.
What he experienced once in rehab is leading to him 'trying it out' at home or in other situations.

I felt that what he did with his therapist is gradually sinking in and
becoming his own strength.

It doesn't have to be drawn perfectly from the start.
If the shape is a little distorted or the line is off, that's perfectly fine.

What's important is that Akkun looked at the dots, thought about the shape, and tried drawing the line with his own hand.

Drawing triangles and squares might look like just scribbling, but
it actually uses many skills.
Visual skills, hand coordination, concentration, shape recognition, and the ability to imagine what comes next.

Akkun worked hard today, using each of those skills.

Rehabilitation time isn't always just fun.
Sometimes he can't do what he wants, gets tired, or loses focus.

But seeing him gradually increase the things he 'can do' like this,
I realize that the time we've spent is truly adding up.

The lines and shapes drawn on paper are small records.

But inside them are packed the things Akkun thought about, the way he moved his hands,
his focus, and the things he has become able to do.

Today was a day we practiced connecting dots to draw triangles and squares.
A day we traced shapes using stencils.
A day we placed magnets and drew while thinking about what shape it would become.

And a day where what we did in rehab
gradually connected to what he can do on paper.

Akkun's 'I did it' list has grown by one more.

Once again, I'm Natsu.
The theme of this note is'Turning all of life into notes'.
Parenting, housework, home building, household management, and AI side hustles.
This is a place to record what happens in daily life, organize 'what is difficult,' and
create systems to make things run a little more smoothly.

And, rather than just posting, I will record and analyze it as
a multi-genre content creation experiment log of my entire life.▼ If you're curious about 'what kind of person is Natsu?', please check out my self-introduction.

Official LINE for Activities

I plan to share not only finished projects but also works-in-progress and prototypes on my official LINE account.
It serves as a place to reduce the 'I thought I'd look for this later but can't find it' moments, and also as a place where you can see all of Natsu's activities in one spot.
