It's okay to have days when you can't give your best.
Hello. This is Yaya.
Whether you are job hunting or looking to change careers,
“I couldn't get anything done today.”
Don't you have days like that?
You meant to apply for jobs but couldn't.
You intended to research companies but didn't feel up to it.
You planned to prepare for interviews, but before you knew it, the day was over.
Even though you know what you need to do, for some reason you can't move. I think there are times when you might feel disgusted with yourself for that.
When you look around, there are many people working hard and staying positive.
They received a job offer.
They found a new company.
If you open social media, you see a lot of that kind of information.
That is exactly why,
“I have to work hard too”
you think, and you end up blaming yourself for not being able to do your best.
But is that really true?
People are not strong enough to keep running at full speed forever.
There are days when you don't want to think about anything.
That doesn't mean you are being lazy; you might just be a little tired.
Working in recruitment, I meet many people.
Even those who seem to be doing well from the outside tell me surprising things when I listen to their stories.
“I had no motivation at all during that period.”
“I started to hate job hunting.”
“I stopped my career change search once.”
However, those people
started walking again after resting.
That is all.
If you keep sprinting at full speed, you will run out of breath somewhere.
So I think it's okay to have time to walk or time to rest. What is important is not that you never stop, but that you are able to start walking again.
It is okay even if you couldn't do your best today.
Your value is not determined by that one day.
You just need to move forward a little bit tomorrow.
Apply to one company.
Look at one company's website.
Browse through some job listings.
Even that is enough.
If there is anyone right now who is blaming themselves for not being able to do their best, please relax your shoulders a little.
Your life includes the days when you can't do your best.
There is no need to rush.
I think it's fine to just move forward little by little on the days when you can move again.
