The First Record is "A Maiden's Dream of Love"! "Gian's Friend of the Heart" / The Road to Gian Becoming a Great Singer!? ②
Episodes about Gian's singing being terrible have appeared since the early days.
The memorable first one is "Honest Radio Waves" published in the October 1971 issue of "Shogaku Sannensei"."Honest Radio Waves". From this time on, he was already gathering everyone in the vacant lot to hold something like a concert, and people were being considerate to Gian by saying things like "I'm enchanted."
Furthermore, in "Doraemon's Song" in "Shogaku Yonensei" released in the same month, he also held a solo recital, but at this time it was described as a voice like a tone-deaf monster appearing in disguise."Doraemon's Song" also held a solo recital, but at this time it was described as a voice like a tone-deaf monster appearing in disguise.
Continuing on, in "Let's Lick Candy and Become a Singer" in the August 1973 issue of "Shogaku Gonensei", he held what he called a fascinating recital (actually a typo for recital), which received bad reviews such as "it's a type of pollution.""Let's Lick Candy and Become a Singer" he held what he called a fascinating recital (actually a typo for recital), which received bad reviews such as "it's a type of pollution."
And then, in "Nobita Broadcasting Association" in the October 1975 issue of "Shogaku Yonensei", he declared his future dream: "I'm going to be a talent, and with this beautiful voice and masculine toughness, I'll become a TV star.""Nobita Broadcasting Association" he declared his future dream: "I'm going to be a talent, and with this beautiful voice and masculine toughness, I'll become a TV star."
In the story, he actually sang on a program called "Gian Recital" on the broadcasting station Nobita built, which caused the ratings to drop significantly.
In the following month's issue of "Shogaku Yonensei", November 1975, in "Slow-Motion Candy", he held a concert titled "Gian Sings Greatly" in the vacant lot, showing off his vocal stamina by singing for three hours straight."Slow-Motion Candy" he held a concert titled "Gian Sings Greatly" in the vacant lot, showing off his vocal stamina by singing for three hours straight.
As you can see, it has been clear since the early days of Doraemon that Gian regularly holds recitals in the vacant lot and harbors a dream of becoming a singer in the future.
In this article, we will take up an episode from six months after that. Until now, he had been forcing people to attend his concerts and making them suffer, but in this work, he will casually (?) drive people into a harsh environment at his home.
What on earth could that be??
"Gian's Friend of the Heart" (First appearance: Record Manufacturing Machine)
"Shogaku Sannensei" April 1976 issue / Complete Works Vol. 7
In this work, as the title suggests, "Friend of the Heart," which became one of Gian's catchphrases later on, is used for the first time (used twice in a row). However, it had a different title when it was published in the magazine."Friend of the Heart" which became one of Gian's catchphrases later on, is used for the first time (used twice in a row). "Friend of the Heart" is a phrase Gian often uses in relation to singing even after this work, and it will appear many times in the future "Road to Gian Becoming a Great Singer!?" feature, so please look forward to it. *I need to properly research and make a list of them once."Road to Gian Becoming a Great Singer!?" feature, so please look forward to it. *I need to properly research and make a list of them once.
Now, at the beginning, Nobita comes home crying after being beaten up as usual, but he is more enraged than ever and begs Doraemon, "Give me a bomb!" And then,"Give me a bomb!" and begs Doraemon, "Give me a bomb!" And then,
"I'll throw it at Gian and die with him"
He is prepared to commit a "suicide bombing."suicide bombing he is prepared to commit.
Nobita laments, "Whenever he sees my face, he finds some reason or another to beat me up," but in response, Doraemon makes an adult statement: "I understand how frustrating it is, but if you take revenge, he'll just take revenge back, so there's no end to it."
Doraemon's suggestion is, why don't you be kind to Gian when he's mean to you? He claims that by using this reverse-psychology kindness strategy, your sincerity will get through to him, and you'll end up becoming friends.
Nobita is skeptical, thinking, "I wonder if it'll really go that well."
Nobita heads to Gian's house with a gadget called the "Record Manufacturer." Gian snaps, "Are you here to complain about what happened earlier?" but Nobita counters with, "You said you wanted to be a singer, right?"
Gian gets excited, shouting, "My dream is to release at least one record!" and suddenly starts singing a song at the top of his lungs.
Thinking, "His voice is as terrible as ever," Nobita activates the "Record Manufacturer," and a record featuring that singing voice pops out.
The record, labeled with the name Nobita Records, has the terrifying title "A Maiden's Dream of Love" printed on it. It seems the gadget has a feature that automatically generates a title based on the song's lyrics.
Gian immediately plays the record on a player. The usual terrible voice plays, but Gian is moved, saying, "My singing touches my heart no matter how many times I hear it." It seems Gian is ultimately tone-deaf.
The Record Manufacturer can make multiple copies and even create original jackets. Perhaps inspired by the title "A Maiden's Dream of Love," it depicts a creepy Gian holding a single rose with a feminine expression on his face.
Gian occasionally shows glimpses of feminine interests, and perhaps his true nature is that of a maiden, just like the title of this song.
Having had his long-awaited record made, Gian shakes hands firmly with Nobita, and that famous line finally comes out.
"From now on, you are my best friend! A friend of the heart!"
Nobita, for some reason, calls Gian by his real name, "Goda-kun!" and they hit it off.
Nobita, satisfied that he has achieved his goal of pacifying Gian, thinks, "Now I can live in peace," and heads home.
Well, it would have been great if it ended happily here, but Gian's rampage begins after obtaining a large number of records, and eventually, the aftermath will come to haunt Nobita...!
Gian uses a photo (or illustration?) of himself looking like a maiden, which seems to be a different shot from the record jacket, to make promotional posters for the record.
A major new talent appears!!
A Maiden's Dream of Love
Takeshi Goda sings sweetly and sorrowfully... Now a hit!!
With a tagline that sounds like the height of cheapness, he intends to sell the records on a grand scale.
However, there is no price written, and it doesn't look like any money is being exchanged afterward, so perhaps it's a free giveaway this time, but who knows...
Suneo is the first to sense such dangerous behavior from Gian. Finding Gian trying to force the records on everyone in front of his house, he warns everyone to take a detour.
However, noticing that foot traffic has suddenly stopped, Gian wanders around town, overhears someone saying, 'It's best to stay away (from Gian's house) for a while,' and flies into a rage.
This prompts Gian to hand out the records to the reluctant children. The smooth-talking Suneo uses flattery, saying, Why didn't you tell me sooner? but this sycophancy will soon backfire on him painfully.
Despite forcing the sales, Gian is highly satisfied, claiming it's an explosive success. He is truly thick-skinned to think, 'I never knew my singing was this popular.'
However, despite having distributed so many, there is no sign of the records playing anywhere as he walks through town.
So, when he runs into Suneo on the street and asks, 'Did you listen to the record?', Suneo tells an obvious lie: 'I sure did! I listened to it over and over again until the record wore out...'
The sharp-witted Gian then retorts, 'Then, sing the beginning part for me,' and beats up Suneo, who is at a loss for an answer. He then makes him go home and listen to the record by force.
Gian uses violence as a backdrop to push his songs into becoming hits. Yet, he changes his mindset to believe they became hits spontaneously, and says to Nobita with great pride, 'At this rate, appearing on NHK's Kohaku Uta Gassen isn't just a dream.'
By the way, at this time, he uses that phrase for the second time, 'Friend of my heart, my brother,' to show his gratitude to Nobita.
As for Nobita, since Gian was happier than expected because he had been kind to him, he feels a great sense of accomplishment, thinking, 'It even makes me happy.'
However, Nobita is the only one happy about being on good terms with Gian; for everyone else, it is an extreme nuisance. Naturally, that anger is directed at Nobita.
Nobita is surrounded by the victims of Gian's records, like Suneo and the others. And then...
Nobita returns home crying, covered in wounds.
'Doraemon, give me twenty bombs!'
And so, he showed his resolve to die by taking 20 of Gian's victims along with him.
Although the kindness strategy toward Gian based on Doraemon's advice was a great success, it seems they failed to foresee that pleasing Gian could become a source of trouble for others.
Since Gian is like a one-man gang, he is an existence one must avoid entirely, much like how one deals with anti-social forces.
