Feeling tired even after sleeping... is it a sign of "blood deficiency"? Yakuzen-based remedies for when you have many dreams
Hello!
I am Saki, a Yakuzen instructor who works as a company employee while raising a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old♪
Yakuzen instructor Saki♪
I woke up this morning after having a bad dream.
I felt anxious throughout the dream, and while still feeling like I couldn't tell if it was reality or a dream, I fell back asleep.
When I got up, I thought, "Huh, I feel kind of tired." I slept, but I'm tired...💦
Isn't this quite a shock?😭
However, in Yakuzen, this is a sign from the body that can be properly explained!
Today, I will share what I have researched while observing my own body♪

Having many dreams is a sign that "the quality of sleep is declining"
First, as a major premise, having many dreams = a sign that the quality of sleep is decliningis one of the reasons.

It's not quite insomnia, and it's not that I can't get up in the morning.
But when you feel a bit groggy or don't feel like your fatigue has been relieved...
that might be "because you are dreaming too much"💦
From the perspective of Yakuzen, "blood deficiency" is one of the causes
There is a book in the classics of Yakuzen called "Jinkiyoryaku" (Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet).
Inside it, there is this way of thinking.
"The soul hides in the liver at night"
The liver is an organ that has the function of storing blood.
At night, the soul settles firmly in the liver to rest
is the normal state.
However, if there is a lack of blood or if the liver is tired,
the soul cannot settle completely in the liver and wanders around,
and as a result, it seems that you end up having many dreams...!
It might sound a bit spiritual (lol), but this is the Yakuzen explanation for "having many dreams."
When studying Yakuzen, blood deficiency (ketsukyo) is directly linked to insomniais something that comes up again and again.

What my teacher told me that
left an impression on me is this↓
"The god of sleep sleeps on a fluffy bed of blood"
When you have enough blood, the god of sleep allows you to sleep soundly.
However, when you are deficient in blood, you cannot make this fluffy bed, and your sleep becomes shallow.
Why I realized, "Oh, I might be running low on blood"
Actually, I have been tracking my basal body temperature recently, and I entered the high-temperature phase a few days ago.
The high-temperature phase is when the body uses blood.
This means it is also a period when blood gradually becomes deficient.
It had been a long time since I had a nightmare (maybe about a year?), so
I thought this might be a sign from my body,
and I started to consciously supplement my blood through my diet.
Our bodies really do give us signs, don't they? ^^
Beware of another cause: "Tanshitsu" (Phlegm-Dampness)
There is another cause for having many dreams or nightmares.
That is Tanshitsu (Phlegm-Dampness)!
In the world of Yakuzen (medicinal cooking), it is sometimes
referred to as "body sludge,"
and it refers to a state where excess substances have accumulated in the body.

There is a saying that teachers often use while studying Yakuzen.
"Suspect Tanshitsu for all illnesses of unknown cause"
Dementia and abnormal behaviors are also sometimes considered to be related to Tanshitsu.
When this Tanshitsu accumulates... it is said that you become more prone to having dreams where you are being chased, scolded, or feel anxious.
And foods that easily create Tanshitsu are fried foods, sweets, heavily seasoned foods, and cold foods at night.
Does that ring a bell? (lol)
Come to think of it, I ate dinner with my family last night, and it might have been something a bit rich...
that is the honest truth ^^;
So what should you do? Things you can start today

1. Eat dinner early and only until 80% full
In the past, as the word "yushoku" (evening meal) suggests, people used to finish eating by 4 or 5 PM.
In modern times, dinner tends to be late, but it is ideal to finish eating at least 3 hours before going to bed.
The later it gets, the more you want to reduce the amount you eat!
2. Refrain from "foods that burden the digestive system" at night
Fried foods, sweets, strong flavors, and cold foods.
If you refrain from these, especially at night, your body will feel lighter✨
3. Be conscious of consuming ingredients that replenish blood
Black sesame, liver, spinach, jujube, goji berries, etc.
Many of these can be bought at the supermarket, so they are easy to incorporate into your daily life♪
4. Fasting at dinner is also an option
I have been incorporating "dinner fasting" for about half a year now.
The morning after a day I don't eat dinner, my body feels truly light!
It's hard to do every day, so I only do it on days I can✨
Can you tell "where you are weak" by the dreams you have?
What I found interesting while researching was the idea that you can infer where your body is weak based on the content of your dreams.

There is also a view that scary dreams or fear-based dreams are a sign of "kidney weakness."
Since the emotion associated with the kidneys is "fear/terror," it is said that when you have scary dreams, your kidneys might be tired.
Just like "tongue diagnosis," where you look at the color of your tongue to see your constitution, dreams can also be a barometer, can't they?
I felt that was a bit interesting✨
(I'll look into this a bit more deeply next time✨)
Summary: If you feel tired even though you are sleeping, it's a sign from your body
When you have many dreams and can't get rid of your fatigue, from a medicinal cooking perspective:
Blood deficiency (eat dinner earlier, consume ingredients that replenish blood)
Accumulation of phlegm-dampness (be careful of overeating at night and rich foods)
Kidney fatigue (if fear or anxiety persists)
It might be good to review these areas^^
Please don't think it sounds "difficult."
Just by eating your dinner a little earlier tonight and
trying to eat until you are 80% full will surely make a big difference♪
