【Automating Charging】A Simple Way to Maximize Battery Life with Smart Plugs
I introduced Anker's ultimate power strip. Simply centralizing outlets and USB ports.
I bought this the other day.
I didn't know something this convenient existed.
PCs, smartphones, tablets, and so on.
I had been using dedicated plugs for each of them until now.
While that wasn't a problem in particular, the look was still terribly cluttered.
I wanted to tidy up the area around the outlets as much as possible by introducing the power strip above.
Also, the color.
I want the cords to match the colors in the room as well.
Unfortunately, the wiring area in my house is brown, but the internet wiring is white. This really stands out.
At the very least, I want the power strip to be brown or black so it doesn't stand out.
For that reason, I chose the power strip above.
Linking with a smart plug. The best automation: power off after 1 hour.
To mention a failure first, this power strip had a cord length of 1.5m, which was supposed to be the perfect length.
However, cords are quite twisty, so it was slightly short.
I additionally ordered this.
As expected of Elecom. It looks durable with a double-sheathed cord.
Dust-prevention shutters. And a swing plug.
It's got everything you could want at this price.
In particular, the swing plug, which allows you to change the angle of the plug, wasn't included on the Anker power strip, so the area around the outlet is now neat.
It also supports polarized plugs.
The polarized plug I have at home is a smart plug.
I can automate this by inserting it between the Elecom power strip and the Anker one.
I immediately set up a smart action in the smart plug app: 'Power on -> Power off after 1 hour'.
Eliminating the risk of overcharging and overheating. A simple trick for safety.
I had seen Anker stores in shopping malls, so I felt a sense of security, but...
I saw this news after purchasing the power strip.
You can check if your mobile battery / speaker unit is affected on the following site.
The power strip I bought this time gets hot when charging multiple devices.
It gets quite hot.
Although it doesn't have a built-in battery, in case of the worst-case scenario of high heat leading to a fire, it's mentally better to have it automatically turn off after 1 hour rather than leaving it on all the time.
Most devices can charge to about 80% in one hour.
The iPad charges over 20% in one hour.
I'd like to charge it a bit more, but this might be better for the battery to prevent overcharging.
80% charge in 1 hour. Making gadget batteries last longer.
Be careful if you are the type who leaves your smartphone charging while you sleep.
Charging your smartphone all night is wasteful and accelerates battery degradation.
Lithium-ion batteries can cause abnormal heat or fire due to overcharging.
Many smartphones have features to prevent the battery from charging beyond 100% to avoid damage from overcharging, so the possibility of a smartphone actually exploding from charging is extremely low.
However, accidents where smartphones have unexpectedly exploded are reported from time to time.
Also, for the smartphone you use every day, a longer-lasting battery means you can use it longer, which is economical.
These are also points to keep in mind for extending battery life.
Do not expose to high temperatures (Apple and Samsung recommend an ambient temperature between 0 and 35 degrees Celsius).
Keep the battery level between 20% and 80%.
Automating the power strip. It is simple, but the satisfaction is immense.
The area around the outlet is neat and tidy with an Anker power strip.
Connect a smart plug to automate a 1-hour timer.
It is reassuring as it prevents battery overheating and overcharging.
Furthermore, you can extend the battery life of your gadgets.
It is now standard for smartphones to cost over 100,000 yen each.
If an investment of a few thousand yen allows you to use your smartphone for longer, it is great value for money.
Simple yet effective, introducing a power strip is like killing three birds with one stone.
I am satisfied.

Let's also simply consider diversifying the risks of the electricity we use every day as a matter of course. Here is the optimal preparation for power sources that are useful for both disasters and daily life.
A key point in choosing a portable power station is whether the manufacturer will take it back for disposal in the future. Some local governments do not accept them for collection (the area where I live is one of them).
