You cannot buy back past data
Following yesterday's article on amulets (wearables), today I am delivering a verification report on the Smart Recovery Ring from issin Inc., which allows you to debug your daily life using 'numerical values' from your fingertips.
A patch for your fingertips that eliminates 'misses' in sleep logging
For the past three years, I have relied on a smartwatch for my sleep data.
However, it would often come off while I was sleeping, so I couldn't get the logs.
I had given up on collecting data while sleeping.
That was until I tried the Smart Recovery Ring from issin Inc. for two weeks.
The conclusion is,
once you put the ring on, you don't have to do anything
This is the biggest advantage.
It is a device that allows you to collect health logs with zero effort.
Sleep logs are reliably accumulated every night.
issin Inc. A 'subtractive' design that even strips away the display
I received a request from issin Inc. (hereinafter referred to as issin) to monitor this product.
The company is a healthcare startup founded in 2021, originating from the University of Tokyo.
Because it is something you use every day.
I prefer something as simple as possible.
When I received the request to monitor the Smart Recovery Ring, I was drawn to its clean design, which lacks even a display, just like the Smart Bath Mat.
I accepted the review with permission to be completely unbiased.
This time, I am sharing my impressions after using the Smart Recovery Ring for two weeks.
What is the Smart Recovery Ring?
It is a smart ring that allows you to visualize the quality of your sleep and recovery 24 hours a day, completely hands-free, with a lightness and design that fits comfortably on your fingertip.
This time, I am comparing it with the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 that I have been using for three years.
JUNGHANS and G-SHOCK too. The joy of regaining the freedom of wristwatches.
When you stop using a smartwatch, the freedom of wristwatches returns.
In daily life or while traveling, a Casio watch with a tough body, radio-controlled timekeeping, and solar charging is unbeatable as a gear for knowing the time.
And when going to a nice restaurant, I wear my JUNGHANS watch.
It has been three years since I could choose a watch to match the occasion.
Especially for men, a wristwatch is one of the few forms of decoration.
The sense of liberation from the smartwatch I was used to wearing is truly free. It is refreshing.
Improved sleep log accuracy. The bug of searching for my smartwatch in the morning is gone.
The best thing about switching from a smartwatch to a smart recovery ring.
It is the fact that sleep data can be captured reliably.

When I used a smartwatch, I prioritized comfort and used a silicone band.
Silicone bands are light. They are also gentle on the skin.
But they come off easily. I almost dropped it many times while out.
It also often comes off while I sleep.
For the past three years, my mornings started with searching for my smartwatch.
After purchasing the smart recovery ring, you will receive the product in the following flow.
Sizing kit arrival -> Size confirmation -> Size/color selection -> Main unit arrival
When confirming the size, it is recommended to wear the sent sizing kit for at least a full day to check.
Since I am particularly sensitive to wearing rings, I tried two sizes for three full days to check for any discomfort.
Thanks to doing this fitting process carefully, I was able to choose the perfect size for my finger.
Of course, it does not come off my finger while I sleep, and I am now able to reliably capture data every morning, such as my sleep quality and how much I have recovered.

A 2.2mm airy fit and small operational precautions
The Smart Recovery Ring features a slim 2.2mm profile and a lightweight design of approximately 3g.
You can barely feel its weight.
The ring width is 8mm.
It is thicker compared to the ring I usually wear (about 3mm wide).
When holding hard objects, the ring may press against your hand.
It makes sense that the official instructions recommend wearing it on your non-dominant hand.
Also, because of its width, it does not drain water very well.
The Smart Recovery Ring itself is water-resistant with IP68 and 5ATM ratings.
It has a waterproof function that can withstand static water pressure equivalent to a depth of 50m (!).
If you bathe while wearing the ring, your skin may become soggy when you take it off afterward.
If this concerns you, it is better to take it off when bathing.
A point of caution when removing the ring is to choose a fixed spot where it will be fine even if you drop it.
When I tried to take the ring off before bathing, I almost dropped it down the sink drain.

The battery lasts for 5 days. Use your bathing time to recharge its energy.
Both the smartwatch I used to wear and this Smart Recovery Ring primarily measure heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, and step count.
It can measure enough information for the average person.
What I was concerned about was the battery life.
Xiaomi smartwatches have great battery life, lasting about a week on a single charge even after three years.
After opening the Smart Recovery Ring, it had 20% battery remaining on the fifth day from a full charge.
The battery life isn't bad. In fact, it's on the better side.
However, as someone accustomed to the battery life of a smartwatch, I would be even happier if the ring lasted a week, given that it lacks a display.
As a precaution against running out of battery, I started charging it whenever I take it off for a bath.
It is also quietly helpful that the app sends a message to remind me if I accidentally forget to charge it.

The luxury of doing nothing but charging
Just like the Smart Bath Mat, you don't have to do anything with the Smart Recovery Ring other than charge it.
For the past three years, my mornings started with searching for my smartwatch, feeling a scare when the strap clasp came undone, or having to buy replacement straps as they wore out.
Looking back, it was a subtle drain on my time and effort, but that all vanished smoothly after switching to the Smart Recovery Ring.
With the Smart Recovery Ring and the Smart Bath Mat, unnecessary hassle is almost zero.
It has become a routine that never fails.
Past data can never be bought back once lost
Logs from smart devices allow you to see changes in your health status over the years.
When I actually used AI to analyze three years of logs from my Xiaomi device, the results showed no major changes in weight, body fat percentage, or bone density, and my circulatory function was good. It noted that I should pay attention to visceral fat and basal metabolism.
As long as you perform minimal management, such as saving to a health folder or backing it up, this three-year data is a record you can use for a lifetime.
Moving forward, it will serve as supplementary data to check changes in your body alongside your health checkup results.
Once you collect the data, it lasts a lifetime.
However, if you don't keep collecting data, you won't gather a lifetime's worth of data.
A device that collects data effortlessly without any effort provides users with data that lasts a lifetime.
Which one allows you to build a 'lifetime asset' without effort?
For the purpose of health maintenance for the general public.
If you prioritize cost-performance, I think a combination of a smartwatch, an app, and a Bluetooth-linked body composition monitor is sufficient.
If you want to keep health data long-term and reliably, the combination of a smart ring and a smart bath mat is easier to continue because it requires no extra actions.
You can start acquiring the latest data from the day you get the device, but you can never buy past data later in life.
If you are unsure, it is wise to choose based on 'which one is easier to continue'.
While accumulating a lifetime of data, you can worry about which watch to wear tomorrow.
That kind of 'free health management' is possible with
issin's Smart Recovery Ring.
