Non-contact thermometers are becoming the ultimate tool for room temperature management
Non-contact thermometers have evolved
I recently purchased this non-contact thermometer.
When I bought a similar product 10 years ago, even one from a Japanese manufacturer, the accuracy was lackluster. Or rather, it was at a level where it couldn't be used as a thermometer. It would repeatedly show temperatures in the 29-degree range. A thermometer with an error of nearly 1 degree is just not good enough.
Health management in just one second
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was taking my temperature every day, and while you can get predictive measurements in about 10 seconds, I was concerned about the accuracy.
So, measuring for over 5 minutes became a complete habit.
However, 5 minutes every time is long.
So, that's why I became interested in this thermometer.
The reviews are good.
Furthermore, it can even function as a thermometer for objects and room temperature.
So, I went ahead and bought it.
Now, how is it in actual use?
Practical level with an error of 0.1 degrees
It is incredibly good.
First, for body temperature, press the start button on the unit, place the sensor near your temple, and press the start button. It measures in 1 second. The error is about 0.1 degrees.
If you measure twice, once on each side near your temples, you can get a nearly accurate reading.
When compared to an actual underarm thermometer, the margin of error was 0.1 degrees. This should be at a practical level.
This should be at a practical level.
You can also optimize heating efficiency in winter.
Even more convenient is measuring room temperature.
In both summer and winter, the room temperature varies between the four corners, and between the floor and the ceiling.
In such cases, you can just press the start button on the device at each location and know the temperature in one second with a beep.
In my house, in December, there is about a 1-degree difference between the ceiling and the floor.
Also, there is about a 2-degree difference between the air conditioner side and the opposite side.
In winter, pointing a circulator toward the ceiling to circulate warm air makes it comfortable and also saves on electricity costs.
Actually, circulators are very useful even in winter. Let's circulate the warm air that has accumulated at the ceiling.
By the way, regarding this non-contact thermometer.
As mentioned above, it has thermometer, temperature gauge, and room temperature gauge functions, but I feel it is more accurate to measure room temperature using the temperature gauge mode.
It is large, but it uses dry cell batteries, which is reassuring.
A disadvantage I found after using it is that the device itself is large.
It is about the size of a TV remote (though smaller than one).
By the way, when placed on a Tanita scale, it weighs 127g.
It is bulky, but I don't actively take it outdoors, and I think it is better that it is conspicuous rather than being too small and getting lost.
Also, because it is large, it uses dry cell batteries. It uses two AA batteries. This is good.
Modern gadgets are all battery-powered, but the batteries degrade quickly. They over-discharge, especially if you don't use them.
That leads to the disappointing situation where the device itself is fine, but you can't use it.
However, with dry-cell battery power, you can use it repeatedly with peace of mind.
If you basically use Eneloop batteries, it feels like you can use them almost infinitely.
I'm still using Eneloop batteries from the Sanyo era, and they are still going strong.
As long as you don't drop or step on them, they seem like they could last for years.
Get through the winter comfortably with 1-second, 2-stage temperature measurement
For the upcoming winter season.
First, take a quick 1-second measurement with a non-contact thermometer.
If the reading is a bit high, take a proper 5-minute measurement with an underarm type.
This two-stage temperature check makes it easy to keep up with health management.
It's also a great tool that's useful for managing room temperature.
After all, it's hard to measure the temperature near the ceiling.
So, that was the story of my favorite thermometer right now.
